'WASHINGTON / February 5, 2025 – Recent airplane tragedies in Washington, DC and Philadelphia have placed the public spotlight on biased and discriminatory hiring practices in the airline industry. The problem can be traced back to 2011 when the Obama Administration introduced Diversity, Equity and Inclusion policies in the federal government via Executive Order 13583, “Establishing a Coordinated Government-Wide Initiative to Promote Diversity, and Inclusion in the Federal Workforce.” (1)

The Obama order targeted all federal agencies, including the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). As a result, the FAA’s hiring and training process went from a skilled-based system to hire air traffic controllers, and replacing it with a new approach designed to favor one candidate over another based on race and sex. 'So, what’s is toxic masculinity and what's wrong with it?

Toxic masculinity isn’t just not talking about feelings with your bros—it’s a psychological trap that keeps men emotionally stunted, relationally dysfunctional, and, at its worst, self-destructive. But we can't talk about toxic masculinity without discussing why some people are so fixated on it as a concept.

From a young age, boys are told to "man up", which is just code for shut up about your feelings. This is repression in action. Bottled-up emotions don’t disappear; they resurface as rage, detachment, or self-destruction.

Rigid masculinity often starts with a cold, distant, or hyper-masculine father figure. To win approval, boys either imitate toughness or reject softness—either way, they inherit an emotional handicap that plays out in adulthood.'

'In 2017, during his first term, Trump introduced rules that strengthened protections for students accused of sexual misconduct and reduced the liability placed on schools to respond to reported misconduct. While Trump’s proposed rule changes didn’t technically take effect until 2020, sexual violence researcher Dr. Nicole Bedera told Jezebel that in her field research of college campuses during the first Trump administration, most schools “immediately used the proposed rule changes in 2017 as grounds to not investigate any sexual misconduct allegations at all.”

In 2022, the Biden administration then introduced Title IX rules that rescinded some of Trump’s and also expanded Title IX to include protections for LGBTQ and pregnant students. The majority of Republican-controlled states challenged Biden’s rules and, in January, a federal judge in Kentucky officially scrapped them.

This vid (registration on Rumble required) is from March 2024 but is still very timely. In it a man (a leader in the MRM, Ed Bartlett) is interviewed to discuss what are some men's issues and what are he and others doing to raise awareness. Worth registering to see it.

Despite the industry’s (often undeserved) reputation for liberalism, its reactionary foundations were baked in almost from the beginning. As Silicon Valley enters a second Trump administration, the gendered roots of its original reactionary movement offer insight into today’s rightward turn.'

'In one of Shyminsky’s TikTok videos he says if you’re a man who believes it’s your duty to protect women then you require dangerous men to exist; as such, you’re not actually working toward a world in which such people do not exist.

In other words, such a man’s “self actualization is opposed to women’s liberation” — that “being a good man also requires you to be a bad one.”

Shyminsky further claims men who believe it their duty to protect women are the real danger: “You are one of the bad ones for some other woman’s good man,” he says.'

'Feminism is facing a backlash, with women’s rights being rolled back in many countries and a significant number of people saying feminism has gone far enough or even too far. Yet women still face basic obstacles to education in some countries and are generally paid less than men. They still suffer from male violence and, in some places, face increasing restrictions to reproductive rights. There are even some places where families force midwives to kill their newborn girls.

Many women are also fed up with doing both a full-time job and the lion’s share of domestic duties and unpaid caring jobs. It’s easy to wonder whether gender equality is simply impossible, especially as many men inaccurately perceive that gains for women equate losses for men.
