Christina Hoff Sommers: "The Gender-Equity Hammer Comes Out"

Article here. Excerpt:

"Women have surpassed men in most areas of education, but men continue to be more numerous in fields like math, physics, and engineering. For more than a decade, feminist groups have been lobbying Congress to address the problem of gender “injustice” in the laboratory. Their efforts are finally bearing fruit. Federal agencies are now poised to begin aggressive gender-equity reviews of math, science, and engineering programs. Groups like the National Organization for Women must be celebrating — but American scientists should brace themselves for the destructive tsunami headed their way.

At a recent House hearing on “Women in Academic Science and Engineering” Congressman Brian Baird, a Democrat from Washington State, asked a room full of activist women how best to bring American scientists into line: “What kind of hammer should we use?” The weapon of choice is the well-known federal anti-discrimination law “Title IX,” which prohibits sex discrimination in “any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” Title IX has never been rigorously applied to academic science. That is now about to change. In the past few months both the Department of Education and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) have begun looking at candidates for Title IX-enforcement positions."

How about one that matches the sickle of their Marxist feminist flag?

The Chinese and East Indians will love this program, because it will further cripple American competitivity while their engineers and scientists proceed to world dominance.

America is over as a country that can lead in anything, except wasteful military expenditures in foolish wars.

We're NO. 1!

for the u.s. as a leader in world class scientific development.

no one is keeping women from competing for slots in advanced math, science and engineering. there is no secret group that is keeping women out. there are no smoking back rooms where bad men meet to scheme how to keep women out. what we do see is a bunch of privileged pampered inadequate wanna be pseudo-scholars desperately needing to be viewed as being on a level equal to males in the hard sciences where males still rule. even w/ all the gender specific handouts (monetary and affirmative action) already available to women they still can't compete. all those special priveleges didn't work so now we must just eliminate schools (like they did hundreds of male college sports programs) that don't "dumb down" enough to make women competitive.

and it appears amerikan legislators (most educated in non-science areas as well) don't possess the sense to get in out of the rain if they believe they can mandate Title IX gestapo tactics in these critical areas that won't do irreparable harm to this country. this type activity also potentially undermines the country's future security. and NASA getting involved only shows how AA hiring practices w/in the government have contaminated that government organization w/ feminists ideology. pitiful.

so if the female cheerleading squad is going to become the new engineering geek squad...

(sorry, it took me a while to picture that)

it might help engineering recruiting for schools like MIT and GT to
maybe come up w/ some cheers to get potential candidates to enroll. i'll try to help, and here's a start.

we like calculus and physics in the morn
Newton and Einstein really blow our horn

Analysis and Thermo in the afternoon
Archimedes and the Bernoullis follow non too soon

Fluids and Dynamics really make our day
thanks Title IX, we're gonna love the pay.

and a new motto maybe would help recruit.

forget the best and the brightest,
we're looking for the rest and the hottest.
