Magazines 'harm male body image'
After decades of railing against the damage teen magazines inflict on girls' self-esteem,
someone finally thought to stand up for the boys, too.
"'Lads' Magazines have been increasingly successful in recent years, and have attracted criticism for an alleged potential to exploit women rather than cause problems for their readership.
...
Professor Naomi Fineberg, a consultant psychiatrist who runs a treatment service for people with obsessive compulsive disorder, said that men and women suffered equally from body dysmorphic disorder."
Also, it's good to see that they specifically pointed out (scathingly!) the tendency to put women's rights before men's. "[A]n alleged potential to exploit women". I couldn't have chosen a more appropriate word.
I'm glad to see further evidence that not all women are blinded by their sex; both of the women mentioned in the article seem rather enlightened about gender equality.

speaking of BODY IMAGE
follow-up on woman sitting on toilet for 2 years.
as of the 3-26-08 article she was STILL in the hospital.
authorities say she won't come out. "maybe tomorrow" was the quote, again.
as far as i can tell the perp (man) who originally fed
and watered her is still being charged.
bet he will get charged again...for the hospital bill.
Good Article!
And I'm living proof that every word of it is true. Well, perhaps not exactly. I don't really read magazines, but I do see the covers of them, and they make me feel bad about my body. I used to be obsessed with getting into shape, actually I kind of still am. I've been working hard at it for a year and a half. I've come a long way though. I used to be obese, but now I'm just a little husky.
But I finally feel quite comfortable with my body, even though it's not perfect. I'm happy to see that some other people out there finally see that the images of men in the media are often unrealistic. I say if a chick wants a guy who looks perfect, she can work at the gym for 10 years with him. Otherwise, screw her, she can settle for someone who isn't perfect.

Opportunities?
The good news is, the hospital can kick her out.
Whose toilet does she take hostage next?
I'm anticipating a move back to mom 'n dad's house with at least one and a half bathrooms.
If she had any entrepeneurial sense, she would already have her own pay-per-view web site.
People would tune in to see a woman sit on a toilet!
Never bothered me
xtrnl, I can understand what you're saying, but personally I've never really cared about the way I look.
I have a chest deformity - pectus carinatum - and I've long believed that it's a waste of time trying anything to improve my appearance; "once a freak, always a freak" has always been my motto.
Is it just an excuse to be lazy? Maybe, but now I see it as a blessing. After all, being too shy to pursue a relationship with anyone has saved me from falling into The Trap ie marriage and children.
I actually think I'm lucky!:))
