One day as a perfect 1950s wife

Story here.

"What has brought this on is a survey, published last week, which compared the perfect 1950s housewife with her 2008 counterpart and asked 2,309 men what kind of woman they preferred. The majority seemed to prefer living with feisty modern babes rather than glorified butlers who change for dinner. But can that be right?

Chez Millard, in any case, it is 1955. For one day. And we are about to put the survey to the test."

"My own mother’s stories from the era don’t ring true to the stereotype. According to her, back then children were seen and not heard. She and her brother ate an early dinner in kitchen by themselves, took their baths, and then stopped by the living room for a kiss from their father during cocktail hour before being sent off to their bedrooms for the rest of the evening. There were only a handful of hours she could possibly spend with her mother between the end of the school day and this 6 pm ritual."

The Aussie and Harriot image of the 1950's wasn't any more true then the Rosanne Image of the 80's or the Everybody Loves Raymond image married life in the 90's.

But of course the authors little game of make believe appeals to her female readership. It doesn't matter if it was ever true. It's just the image and the game that matter.... we are talking about women here after all.

... sorry to be a dick, Paragon, but I just have to mention that you're referring to "Ozzie and Harriet", not "Aussie and..." An Aussie is a person from Australia. ;)

Not being a dick at all, I'm just a piss poor speller. I don't take offense when people point out my grammatical errors cause I know damn well there are some to be pointed out
