Middle school teacher faces 5 counts of sexual misconduct

Video here. Right at the end of the video the reporter notes the judge ordered a "psychiatric evaluation". In the Related Media list, this article also appears on the site; it was a special to the Seattle Times. Good to see it even if it is dated Sept., 2007. Excerpt:

'The decade long wave of sexual offenses committed by women — teachers in particular have exposed a cultural double standard: The public is more willing to accept the female abuser's claim that she had a "relationship" with the victim. And in cases in which the male is a teenager, the sexual abuse is more likely to be dismissed as a rite of passage. The questionable, yet overriding assumption, is that women predators are somehow different from men.

"Men are demonized, women are diagnosed. Men are beasts, but women are troubled or mentally ill," said media scholar Matthew Felling in an interview with Fox News. In fact, accounts of women sexual offenders are often more titillating than harsh. Felling calls the news coverage of young, attractive teachers involved with their students "part crime drama, part Penthouse letter."'

isn't that awkward in court for women, what w/ the "RELATIONSHIP" thing going on?

the video guy makes it sound like she doesn't belong in court, but back in class teaching except for those stupid charges, against a woman no less.

imho if there were true ethics being practiced these days in the courtroom this would have never been allowed to happen for so long w/o any punishment for women. i've said it all before. lawyers and judges (u.s.) quit playin' decades ago w/ those nasty "Precepts of Law".

50 years ago nobody would have batted an eyelid.Today is different.Recently the Uk has seen a bill introduced by women for women with regard to marthas law or megans law as it is in the states.Only men are named ,basically only women can apply to be told names unless a male parent asks under the aegis of his wife.This woman would therefore not be named.

I wonder how many teengage boys must fall victim to these predators before people start to label them accurately; as the predators they are. I'm really sick of this double standard where full grown women can sleep with minors and get away with it, while countless men are falsely accused of the same, and get a harsher punsihment for a crime they didn't even commit! What a joke the Judicial System has become!
