Steinem Interview Neglects Male DV Victims
Posted for Marc A.
The Capitol Times in Wisconsin just printed an interview with Gloria Steinem.
They asked about NCFM's claim that male victims were neglected in the domestic violence discussions. True to form, Steinem downplayed the seriousness of the problem and said male victims are mostly elder abuse. Amazing! Steinem knows that isn't true, of course. In addition to all the research we have sent her from the Centers for Disease Control, etc., Harvard Medical School just recognized that women initiate domestic violence at least as much as men among heterosexuals between ages 18-28 (hardly "elderly").
See Harvard article here.
Judith Davidoff, the interviewer, must have seen all the data and links we provided to the Centers for Disease Control data and major universities (and Steinem is certainly aware; I've sent them to her many times). Why didn't Judith mention the research? You can ask her yourself by emailing her at jdavidoff-at-madison.com.
And you can send a letter to the Capitol Times editor at dzweifel-at-madison.com.

Queen of Denial
When asked why arrests for domestic violence are frequent, Steinem replies -
"There are a lot of reasons. If you grow up in a violent household and you don't have a chance to heal that in some way, then the boys become batterers and the girls think that there's no other choice - that they have to put up with it."
Note the automatic feminist assumption that boys become batterers and girls become victims. In fact, the research shows that exposure to violence at home affects boys and girls similarly with both more likely to resort to violence later in life.
Asked if there is any actual feminist movement today Steinem denies the obvious institutionalization of feminist laws, education, media, values, and power -
"You'll find different kinds of organizations that share feminist values - so in the state legislature, there might be a caucus on women's issues. It isn't reflective in the institutions of our country yet, but it is in the culture and the activism."
I think Gloria may have fallen off her bicycle when she wasn't wearing a helmet.
What a whack job! (Errr... exemplary feminist intellectual.)
A woman needs a man like a
A woman needs a man like a fish needs a larger, more successful fish's wallet.
Or...
..another spin on Steinem's own hate:
A man needs a woman like a bicycle needs a fish...a fish that wants to steal the bicycle's seat and tires.
(Always pisses the older feminists off something awful).
A man needs a woman like a
A man needs a woman like a bicycle needs a fish... a fish that wishes it had a kickstand.
..roy.. A greater percentage
..roy.. A greater percentage of violent men come from homes without their fathers!!
these men are learning violence from their mothers!!
GLORIA WHO????
I can't believe this old fossil is still around. At first, I was amazed that she was still alive, I thought she had died some time ago. Then I realized it was that maggot of a misandrist Andrea Dworkin who died. Oh, well.
Now THAT's clever
Kickstand envy! I love it.
Here's a few spins.
A man needs a woman like a bachelor needs a wife.
A man needs a woman like a woman's rape accusation needs evidence.
A man needs a woman like a woman needs to pay for her dinner while dating.
A man needs a woman like a woman needs to actually be attractive to think(in her head) that every man wants her.
A man needs a woman like a woman needs to do equal work to get equal pay.
A man needs a woman like a woman needs to worry about losing in divorce court.

Good Observation
scottkirk, yes. We need more statistically inclined analysis in the MRA blogosphere.
Of course, unstated though implied in your observation is that the majority of those violent men growing up in fatherless homes are black.
Some 70% of African-American children are now born into single-mother homes, and homicide is the leading cause of death for young black men.
I'm not sure if any respectible studies of violence in African-American households headed by women have been done.
It would probably kill your career in academia if you proposed such a politically-incorrect project.
One might suggest that a lot of the blatant misogyny and anti-women hatred spewed by rappers is a projection of rage against their mothers and the female-dominated environment they experienced in the 'hood.
Can't call my mommy a ho', but bring those nasty bitches on!
Are you kidding? Rap music
Are you kidding? Rap music is the last bastion of male dignity and power left in America. Don't knock it!
I agree@Sosickoftheirlies.
I don't listen to rap but I applaud them labelling dishonest whores as what they are; whores. No PC language for women.

"Dishonest" Whores? Where?
Crap now I have to get all neo-Marxist and stuff...
When a man defines a woman as a whore, he also defines himself as a commodity. The purchaser of her product in an exchange with zero integrity. (You've sold way more than you've bought...)
He has accepted the degradation of the Gender Wars and defined himself as a loser.Just another piece of meat on the market.
That's not to say there are not plenty of ho's (and plenty of pimps) to go around.
You don't have to be a street-stupid homey who views all women as whores; nor do you have to be a chivalrous "luv my soulmate" idiot.
You can make decisions about relationships and judge women's character based on what you experience. (Fine with me if all you meet are whores... that could easily be a random sample in today's FemAmerica.)
Personally, I just don't see how rich black men rapping about women being ho's guarantees those men anything other than a few minutes of fleeting fame.
And the ho's (and the white recording company executives) will get the BANK in the end. The ho's get paid up front in cash, and the execs rig the accounting. The "artist" gets a copy of his video, and the illusion of wealth.
The rap music industry is just a temporarily more comfortable sugar cane plantation for the hired help.
It's all good.
The feminist prudes hate rap
The feminist prudes hate rap music, just like they hate porn and cowboy movies; that's good enough for me. Pimps are on the streets, calling the shots, keeping the money. But those of us who respect the law are the bitches. The whores are pimping us.
This pseudoscholar and his rants.
Crap now I have to get all neo-Marxist and stuff...
You mean now you have to make up more bullshit.
When a man defines a woman as a whore, he also defines himself as a commodity. The purchaser of her product in an exchange with zero integrity. (You've sold way more than you've bought...)
WRONG. In order for this to be true a purchase would need to have been made. It's like walking into a store and saying chocolate milk is nasty. Claiming the milk is nasty does not require one to BUY the milk. Thus your flawed hypothesis that anyone who labels a woman a whore is a purchaser has no grounds unless a purchase is made.
He has accepted the degradation of the Gender Wars and defined himself as a loser.Just another piece of meat on the market.
This is simple more of your opinion as opposed to fact kind of like the "fun-meter" on the "feminists are fun" story.
You don't have to be a street-stupid homey who views all women as whores; nor do you have to be a chivalrous "luv my soulmate" idiot.
More of your personal labels as opposed to facts. Btw, noone says "street homey" anymore.
You can make decisions about relationships and judge women's character based on what you experience. (Fine with me if all you meet are whores... that could easily be a random sample in today's FemAmerica.) Personally, I just don't see how rich black men rapping about women being ho's guarantees those men anything other than a few minutes of fleeting fame.
Usually men or anyone calling the typical American woman a whore are doing just that. You're just too stupid to see it, instead you sit around arguing with men -- while defending hookers(Like your defense of Crystal Mangum's lying ass) and get yourself kicked off of sites.
Moreover, I know rappers that are hugely successful -- worth millions with corporate empires to boot -- while you're here claiming all they have a is a "few minutes of fleeting fame." You must be blind to the millions they make. Let's see you make it into Money magazine off of making music and then you can talk to me.
And the ho's (and the white recording company executives) will get the BANK in the end. The ho's get paid up front in cash, and the execs rig the accounting. The "artist" gets a copy of his video, and the illusion of wealth.
You're living in the woods back in the 1950s aren't you? There are tons of black rap moguls(Intelligient business-minded individuals) that have their own labels, clothing lines, etc. The women in those videos get a crackhead's salary(they did an entire special on how much money "video hos" don't get), they are not worth anything. Look at the empires rappers/producers like P. Diddy, Russell Simmons, 50 Cent, Master P, Dr. Dre(who put Eminem on), and so on have built. These tricks in the street that call themselves golddiggers don't even come close. Nor do any of the white execs that work in the corporations these men have built.
Also, don't forget black execs work at these companies too Jethro.

Wait-- who defended Crystal Mangum?
That would be Roy.
Roy did--he said the authorities should not go after a "poor black stripper." As a matter of fact several times he referred to Crystal Gail Mangum as a "victim."

Victim my ass.
Victim my ass.
How Odd
...... anyone would defend a rapist like Crystal Gail Mangum! If this sounds ambiguous it is based on the premise that a false rape accusation is the moral equivalent of rape, thus CGM is a rapist.
Shucks I've Been Dissed and Dismissed!
Well shucks, MrR, ya'll gots me to thankin' bout how much I jus don' know.
"According to an IFPI report published in August 2006, the big four accounted for 71.7% of retail music sales:
Universal Music Group — 25.5%
Sony BMG Music Entertainment — 21.5%
EMI Group — 13.4%
Warner Music Group — 11.3%
independent labels — 28.4% "
Looks like a black empire of musical entrepeneurs, sure 'nuf. How many black CEO's?
It's a fact that most rap music is purchased by suburban wanna-be ghetto white kids who are appropriating black cultural idioms ... just like in the 1950's as you have so astutely observed.
I'm sure 50-cents' back catalog will be worth at least that of the Beatles some day.
In the meantime, a lotta white (and a few black) accountants gotta get paid, right?
And man, chocolate milk IS nasty!
Did you know that Jethro was Robert Johnson's bass player? ;-)
Yes, but retail music sales
Yes, but retail music sales are down, and the record companies have been whining about it for years now. Haven't you noticed?
In regards to the comment about false accusations being the moral equivalent of rape-- they're not. They're much, much worse than rape. Would you rather be raped for an hour or spend twenty years in a Supermax for something you didn't do? Feminist spread the mantra, "Abuse is control." Being falsely accused and imprisoned, by their own definition, is the ultimate state of being abused, and with wrongly accused men the abuse never ends, even years after allegations are disproven.
A rape victim might be violeted in a bar for an hour, while a dozen onlookers jeer and do nothing. But the victim of a false allegation is fucked for life while all of society sits on a stool and cheers the abuse on.
The debunking of a redneck by MrReality
It actually took you all night to dig up this mess? Let me align you with reality.
Roy wrote: “And the ho's (and the white recording company executives) will get the BANK in the end. The ho's get paid up front in cash, and the execs rig the accounting. The "artist" gets a copy of his video, and the illusion of wealth.”
I then replied with: “You're living in the woods back in the 1950s aren't you? 1. If you will notice I never said the music industry was a “black empire of musical entrepreneuers” as Roy assumes. My statement says clearly “Look at the empires rappers/producers like P. Diddy, Russell Simmons, 50 Cent, Master P………and so on have built.” Anyone with any kind of common sense knows this refers to the businesses which they have built via money made through the music business as this is what we were talking about in the first place.
So what is needed is a check of where these individuals stand monetarily/business-wise since Roy claims all rap artists “get a copy of his video, and the illusion of wealth” and that's it as quoted above. For the sake of simplicity I shall only list a few and we shall see if Roy is adhering to reality rather than a redneck bias…
1A: Article on the business ventures of Master P: http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=local&id=5684702
Tidbits from the article: “Miller is living proof of the truth and power of Guaranteed Success. He was born and raised in poverty, but today, he's a successful multimillionaire
In this book, he shares the wealth wisdom that he has gained through his life's journey. As an icon for entrepreneurship, hip hop star, Percy "Master P" Miller, has graced the cover of Fortune magazine, been listed (3 times) on Fortunes "40 Richest Under 40" as well as Forbes magazine's "Top List of Highest-Paid Entertainers." He has also received the "Entrepreneur of the Year" award, and won an "Independent Filmmaker of the Year" award from the Black Filmmakers Foundation.”
From Wikipedia: “ At one time, the estimated worth of his business dealings reached $661 million.”
1B. Excerpts on Sean Combs: “Sean John Combs (born November 4, 1969)[1] is an American record producer, mogul, CEO, clothing designer, and rapper. He was brought into the hip hop industry by life long friend Sami Al-Hakkak”
“His business interests include Bad Boy Records, the clothing lines Sean John and Sean by Sean Combs, a movie production company, and two restaurants. He has taken the roles of recording executive, back up singer, performer, producer of MTV's Making the Band, writer, arranger, clothing designer, and Broadway actor. Diddy is the second richest hip-hop entertainer, having a net worth estimate of US$358 Million.[3].”
Russell Simmons has a net worth of about $325 million.

The debunking of a redneck, Pt. 2 by MrReality
2. Black executives do indeed work as exceutives in the music industry. Thus proving my point and debunking your statement which implies that only “white executives’ are getting paid. I doubt if many of the white “employees” have amassed the personal fortune many of these men have. As I said this is no longer the 1950s which you seem to be stuck in.
3. Claiming that mainly whites purchase their music only serves to make these men richer. It means nothing except that whites are helping to increase these mogul’s holdings. For instance, your logic is so distorted that you seem to be implying that the individual people that buy Apple Ipods are actually wealthier than the very company that makes them, Apple Inc. Few individual Ipod buyers personal finances could match the fortune Apple itself is making from “selling’ the Ipods to them. That is common sense. Thus once again your argument is nothing more than junk postings meant to grandstand in a debate you have clearly lost.
I'm sure 50-cents' back catalog will be worth at least that of the Beatles some day.”
Just as I am sure that the average white executive will have amassed the fortune -- and businesses -- that Percy Miller aka Master P controls in his/her lifetime(I.e. The white exceutives lifetime). LoL. /End Sarcasm.
The point is comparing 50 Cent’s back catalog to the Beatles is irrelevant since it has already been proven that the “rappers” shown above are not broke like you try to claim they are(which was one of the points of your argument). As a matter of fact they have more money than any of you or your white friends will probably see in a lifetime. You "wish" you were on their level. That is possibly why you are so angry with them, although I could care less. The point has been made and your position made-out to be the backwoods hick logic that plague people such as those in the klan.
"Did you know that Jethro was Robert Johnson's bass player? ;-)”
Did you know that Roy is also the first name of the restaurant called Roy Rogers? Honestly who cares?
Your position has been destroyed...move on boy. I'll be ignoring your nonsense from now on. Maybe Matt will kick you off the site like MND did you. LoL.
