Korean Papaer Covers Pay Gap - and Reasons for It

U.S papers are reluctant to cover it because they profit off putting the power of the purse into the hands of the most irresponseable party..(the women)

Men are generally more frugal with spending because they labor for it..Women are more profligate because it's not their life spans that are getting shortened because they are working themselves to death!!

Why Men Get Paid More Than Women

Despite ongoing differences worldwide, one thing remains consistent: the wage gap between men and women.

A 2005 U.S. Labor Department study showed that college-educated women, aged between 36 and 45, earned 74.7 cents in hourly pay for every dollar that men of the same age group made.

And in the U.K., last month's survey said that manager-level women on average earned $88,854 annually, while similar-ranking men took home $101,245, to which, the Chartered Management Institute says, is the first time that the pay gap among British managers widened in 11 years.

Similar differences apply locally, as women make about 80 percent of the salary that men make, said Kim Young-ok, a senior researcher at Korean Women's Development Institute.

``Compared to 20 years ago the gap has narrowed, women used to make only 60 percent of what men did,'' she said, adding that it's the big corporations that usually change the direction and make a statement with their salary rules.

However, a recent survey done by online recruiter Career indicated that while more major firms are hiring women, the salary difference is widening.

It said the number of females employed hiked in 61 companies out of the 100 surveyed, with Korea Electric Power Corporation seeing the biggest jump over the past five years. LG.Philips LCD, Samsung Tech Win, Samsung Heavy Industries and Hana Bank were some of the other companies that, compared to previous years, added more women to their payroll.

But, despite the positive turn in the hiring boost, the study showed that the average paycheck gap has reached up to 22.8 million won ($24,800), up 8 million compared to 2001.

``As we all know, this isn't just a problem of Korea,'' said Kim. ``In other parts of the world, Even if women and men ultimately do the same work, men still take more home.''

And there are many reasons for this, say experts.

Apart from the longer overall hours put in by men than women, Warren Farrell, author of ``Why Men Earn More: The Startling Truth Behind the Pay Gap _ and What Women Can Do About It,'' said male workers are more likely to be open toward factors that lead to higher pay.

Relocating or traveling extensively for work, taking on more hazardous assignments, working in the hard sciences, taking jobs requiring greater financial risk and working in unpleasant environments are some of the conditions Farrell mentions in his book.

On the other hand, he writes that women lean toward careers that are more fulfilling, flexible and safe, with the tradeoff of lower pay.

``Not only do many women have specific work preferences, but they tend to leave the workforce early for marriage and child-rearing, which definitely affects their salary curve,'' added Kim, noting that a higher number of women are also temporary contract workers who generally get paid less than permanent ones.

Although the issue of the wage gap has been long-existent, economists and feminists have recently raised concerns that the narrowing has hit stagnation.

``The 1980s has been a time of playing catch-up, but the speed suddenly slowed and will most likely remain sluggish,'' said Kim, as she attributed the doldrums partially to women's indifferent reactions despite the inequality. ``They have to step up to the plate and take action.''

Regarding this matter, Linda Babcock and Sara Laschever, authors of ``Women Don't Ask,'' give good reasons to why ladies should speak up, as they say, by not negotiating a first salary, an individual stands to lose more than $500,000 by age 60.

Also, they wrote men are four times more likely to negotiate a first salary, with men picking metaphors such as ``winning a ballgame'' and a ``wrestling match'' to describe the negotiation process, while women chose to describe it as ``going to the dentist.''

``Although the societal landscape forms the wage disparity to some degree, natural tendencies between the two genders play a significant factor as well,'' said Kim.

Using a term such as "societal landscape", is apparently wordage designed to imply there is some other reason(s) for the "gap", other than those given by Farrell - without actually naming anything in specific!

I recall back in the 60's that I lost a job I enjoyed
due to pay structure.I was actually jocked off a job by a woman,I was married and supporting a non working wife at the time and had a mortgage but a woman took my job because she accepted2/3 of my pay.The company was looking for cutbacks but it had taken years for unions to attain pay levels which women disregarded. This was the start of the end for trade unions. Now some women complain that they have to do 2 jobs just to stand still--no wonder.

Never refer to the earnings gap as the "pay gap" the way feminists and their friends in the media do. The former terminology associates this so-called gap with what one actually earns as a result of one's labor, while the latter implies that we're somehow entitled to be paid.

Earnings, not pay. That's a foreign concept to a feminist and to most women raised in the age of female supremacists and the culture of female entitlement.

All that being said, there most certainly is an earnings gap, and that gap favors women. When can men expect an outcry in the media beyond the initial, misandric piece in the NYT? When will we see programs discriminating against women in order to equalize our earnings?

Think it will ever happen? Me neither. It's far easier for most members of the penis-impaired, entitled crowd to bitch and moan about "pay" instead of devoting that energy to actually earning something. You know - the way men are expected to earn what they want? I really must look up the definition of equality again - I'm getting a bit fuzzy on the word for some reason. Maybe I'll look up pay, earnings and gap while I'm at it, since those words are now meaningless too.

"it had taken years for unions to attain pay levels which women disregarded"

Do you mean they didn't respect the fact, that it took unions a long time to do this? Or do you mean the pay levels themselves?

Feminists are really keen to exploit and distort any kind of a "gap" between the genders.

Unless it entails exposing advantages for women.

To name a few --

* women now comprise 60% of all students enrolled at colleges and universities. This is not a "gap," it's equality stupid.
* there are over 300 state and federally funded commissions on the status of women in America. Only one unfunded men's commission struggles to survive in New Hampshire. This is not a "gap," it is evidence of men failing to show up. (Thanks, Dr. Helen!)
* VAWA provides billions of dollars to extend services to female victims of domestic violence, while denying services to men. This is not a "gap," it is justice.

In order to understand feminist thinking, you just have to contemplate how a man would think --

then remove the logic, substract any sense of fairness, and shitcan any foolish notions about integrity.

There you go! You can be a feminist!

Is she the one that says "men fail to show up"?

This web psychology wench in red pajamas is fond of provoking controversy, but she never replies to anyone who calls her on her lack of MRA cred.

(Dr. Helen, quote) -- "What struck me most from the interview with Mr. Sacks was his reason for why men are sometimes screwed by unjust laws passed by the legislature—men just don’t show up.

So guys, remember that next time you shake your head after hearing about a case of a false accusation, divorced dads who have their kids robbed from them, or a male friend who is hauled off unfairly on domestic violence charges.

This is happening because men are letting it."

Typical feminist "shame-and-blame" faux-sympathetic BS.

MRA's do not need false allies like Dr. H.

She's not merely a political whore.... she's an aspiring pimp!

I think there's something a little more subtle going on here, than what you say:

Note that she is picking the one thing out of the interview that makes the problem sound anywhere near men's "fault"; then she says that that item "struck her most" in the interview, in order to have a reason to place emphasis on it; and then finally, she rewords it slightly before giving it to her readers: "men are letting it happen".

Sneaky, isn't it?

"Men's problems are men's fault, women's problems are men's fault."

ax -- re. Dr. Helen: "I think there's something a little more subtle going on here..."

Man, if you keep up this sexist semiotic assault on the oh-so-hot Dr. Helen, she will never reward you with that hint of cleavage that her signature red pajamas photo so seductively teasingly promises.

Check her out!

She's one sophisticated 'Net chanteuse.

She has a Masterdebators's degree in psychological manipulation. Impressive girl.

(I hear that Mike LaSalle over at MND is boning her bigtime. She's prominent on his splashpage...)

Does the anger directed at MND have anything to do with them kicking you off of the site? I wonder...

MrR. -- (Thanks for asking...)

I kicked myself off the MND site when Mike LaSalle personally e-mailed me to "stop upsetting" the likes of David R. Usher and Marc Rudov. (They both wrote him several times to erase my voice because they were less than happy with my probing of their supposed MRA-schtick.)

I had author status to initiate threads, and published a couple pieces, but I could not see how I could contribute to Mike's business plan, which is to become the National Enquirer of the MRA websphere.

So, in my view, it's no harm, no foul.

MND today looks like Tokyo at night, all pop-ups and pop-unders and scroll across advertising. ( Watch the great film "Lost in Translation" if you need to see MND's mature evolution towards triviality ...)

I think I correctly understood how Mike LaSalle views the men's movement.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

No regrets.

That also means there is a huge opportunity for an actual MRA web site with political integrity.

MND has shown the way NOT FORWARD.

His comment is given below:

"DadWith2Girls said,

Dr. Helen opined — "What struck me most from the interview with Mr. Sacks was his reason for why men are sometimes screwed by unjust laws passed by the legislature–men just don't show up."

I've commented elsewhere that this is simply a not-too-subtle variation of the DV feminazis' "shame-and-blame" tactics aimed to demean men psychologically.

It certainly indicates a deep and unexamined misandry that Dr. Helen might wish to reflect upon.

Men DO show up.

In divorce court hearings, where their wealth and access to their children is expropriated.

At the wedding altar, where their futures are expropriated.

Alas, men DO show up to vote 100% for VAWA and every other anti-male bill that appears in Congress.

Where are all the "I'm not like them" anti-feminist women?

Why so much silence?

Perhaps because they are very aware of the advantages they enjoy when men are persecuted?

Maybe because they are not, after all, the "fairer" sex? (i.e. seeking actual justice and equality?)"

That is an interesting way of explaining how "men show up", but it doesn't really address the issue.
But it does sound to me like this Dr. H. person is a fame-hungry, misandrist pig.

99.9% of women today are misandrists and most of the men today are too dumb to put their foot down and demand equality. They instead shun other men that try to bring them into the light and let them know how things really are. As I said it is always women fighting men and men fighting men. This must change..

Women who falsely claim to have been abused often don't bother to show up for the hearings (knowing they risk being exposed). Are they punished for disobeying the court? Nope.

Do the men show up, only to be treated with contempt by obnoxious, biased judges? Yep. Would they be sanctioned if they didn't show up? Yep.
