Edwards Predicts Doom for African-American Males

Story here.

Does Edwards really care about men, or is he simply looking for minority votes? Either way, its the first comment from a presidential candidate regarding the status of American males. Make sure you check out the video. Excerpt:

'Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards said if he isn’t elected president, the population of African-American males is likely to either wind up in prison or dead.
...
We start with the president of the United States saying to America, ‘we cannot build enough prisons to solve this problem. And the idea that we can keep incarcerating and keep incarcerating — pretty soon we’re not going to have a young African-American male population in America. They’re all going to be in prison or dead. One of the two.”'

... strikes me as being disingenuous to say the least. Why has this topic suddenly become important to him? First I have heard him speak of it. Then again, this year's race seems more filled by political duplicity and posturing about 10x more than usual. Slice it up 10 ways, we're still screwed no matter who wins. (And if The Hildebeast wins, we're screwed x 100)

African American males are the test case for social policy in the U.S. The political notion that women's issues are more important than men's disproportionately affects African American males in every category (child support, gender discrimination in the legal system, men's health, etc)--almost to the point that the political marginalization of men's issues could be called racist.

If Edwards had framed the issue more broadly, it might seem more palatable to some MRAs. Edwards drew attention to the outcome of certain political and social policies (where African American men are likely to end up), instead of directly drawing attention to those political and social policies themselves. At least that's something.

Maybe Edwards doesn't realize the full implications of his statements. Fully implementing that kind of vision, even in the limited sense of inner-city education reform, which he mentions in the video segment, would mean reforming institutionalized radical feminist policy.

It's interesting that Fox News picked up the segment. Perhaps they intended to suggest that Edwards is soft on crime. But probing social problems facing African American males involves considering issues of direct interest to MRAs--issues that conservative candidates should have been addressing.

You're right OpEd. By delving into "helping African-American males" he will have to pay attention to -- and do something about -- the rampant spread of feminism in this country which served to impugn men and also finally acknowledge how the feminists hi-jacked the civil rights movement and left black men destitute. Moreover there are more than a few "African-Americans" who feel Kerry could have made his statements a bit more professional rather than broadly painting all black males as criminals which is simply more male-bashing. Or at least that is what many of my fellow "african-americans" are saying.

I do recall him making a similar poorly worded statement about our troops. That man needs someone to write his speeches for him...or if he has somebody he needs someone better.

Do you recall how much focus that moronic Don Imus spiel received? News stations were jumping on that along with Hoe-prah. Did you see as much coverage of the Jena 6 fiasco? No. You saw some coverage but nowhere near as much as that which they thought offended black WOMEN. The only reason the Don Imus thing was blown up was not because they were black but because they were WOMEN. I mean come on calling some girls nappyheaded is nowhere near as severe as numerous young men going to jail for responding to racist acts or getting shotguns pointed in their faces as was said happened before in Jena. Men need to stop obssessing over women...it's old and very destructive to our goals as men. Especially black men whom are always "victimized" by the system anyway.

Feminism hi-jacked civil rights and started handing spoiled women even more than they had.

I know the rap/diss on Edwards is that he's a millionaire tort attorney.

But that might mean he knows how to defeat Big Pharma and Big Insurance and get affordable universal health care in America.

He's the only Demo candidate who's stated "you cannot negotiate" with these people.

I am interested in his aggressive approach, even given the $400 haircut.

Maybe an intelligent trial lawyer would be a better president than a C-minus Yale grad with a cognitive impediment?

Health care for everyone....great idea, but what are the negatives? Implementing such a massive program in a capitalist/democratic economy could spell disaster. Pharmaceutical and insurance companies are some of the largest employers and corporate tax payers in the nation. Keep in mind, corporations are taxed twice. Take money away from them could cost the US jobs and possibly have a catastrophic effect on the stock market. Keep in mind the high revenue of $$$ generated by pharmaceutical companies enables them to lead the world with medical patents. Most pharmaceutical companies provide free medications to individuals with low incomes. Pfizer's "patient assistance prorgram" is the model many other companies have adopted. This excess revenue would cease to exist with a socialist approach to medicine.

Socialized medicine could lead to economic complacency. In our current system an individual should be motivated to find a better job that might offer health insurance. It could motivate the individual to futher his education. The US has always been better served with giving a hand up, not a hand out. Universal healthcare could stagnate the growth of the economy. Why aren't more welfare people motivated to leave the system? They recieve medicaid. Where's the motivation? Don't get me wrong, the poor should be taken care of, but many in the "system" are not motivated to improve their economic status.

The current system is flawed. But instead of completely destroying the foundation of capitalism, lets try and improve the system. The US has become a land of quiters. If something doesn't work perfectly, we give up.

Socialized medicine could just be the beginning. Socialism means bigger governement, more burecacy, and higher taxes. Essentially, the federal governement knows more than the public. Dare I say, a nanny state. Some believe socialized medicine is characterized by long waiting times for treatment and that this is due to government rationing.

We all hate HMO's right? In a social welfare state, the federal governement becomes the new HMO. Nothing is free!

One last thought. Why are the majority of people (rich & poor) able to afford cell phones? The demand for cell phones are so high, companies are forced to compete with one another. This ultimately drives the price down. If US citizens were given tax incentives to buy there own healthcare, the same economic principle would apply. The price would go down. Heathcare would then become affordable.

Here it is gentlemen, I am a proud republican and a conservative when it deals with the economy and foriegn policy. The US has become a pussified nation. We have become a nation which panders to special interest groups (including feminism). Why should I want a social welfare state when feminists consider such a system beneficial to their philosophy of female weakness. Women cannot compete without the governement holding their fragile hand. Socialism?....Sure it works....feminism thrives in these nations. Equity supercedes ability. I might be getting off the subject, but the foundation of socialized medicine appeals to the weak. Individuals incapable of fighting for economic superiority. People that need the government to wipe their ass. My solution? Become educated and fight your ass off for a career that gives you everything you want. (that includes healthcare). We are men, we don't need special privileges to survive. No healthcare gentlemen? If you have an infection, cut the disease out of your body with a knife and drink a bottle of whiskey for the pain! May I suggest Seagrams VO (Canada's finest!)

I have been hesitant to announce my political affiliation. Not any more. As of 10/1/08 I am proud to say I support the cross dressing, three time married Rudy Giuliani. I'll go a step further and proudly state I volunteer for his campaign. I'm sure I've made some enemies here. What man is better able to bitch slap that freak in Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

I'm not sure why I'm engaging in a political tantrum. Maybe I'm just in a bad mood.

I'll go A step further. Pulling out of Iraq just for the sake of leaving is assine. What nation has ever given a time table of retreat during a war? I respect every life that has tragically died, but we should only leave based on bench marks determined by success. Anything else is defeat. Entering this war was wrong, but we are there, and the job must be completed which is vital in stabilizing a middle east which is completely dysfunctional. A dangerous region that would relish another attack similar to 9'11. An attack that cost my uncle his life. My family buried a fucking collar bone! Rudy was the only source of leadership. A man that actually attended my uncles funeral. Yes I met Rudy, and the man has my respect! Aside from this post, I will never again mention my political affiliation. It detracts from the foundation of this website. I'm simply a political nut.

I might be going too far based simply on a socialized medicine comment. Nothing to do with you Roy. I'm simply fired up!

My political affiliation has nothing to do with my passion as an MRA. This is a common bond that I share with all of you!

I'm pretty sure I'm done with this excessive speech.

John Edwards should squat down, and pull the string from his crotch. Mr. Edwards your pulling out a tampon! The man is a pussy. Not worthy of being commander and chief!
