"Heinous act" vs. "forbidden love"

Take a look at this story. This is a teacher (male) being "hunted" now that he is suspected of having sex with two of his students. Not at all defending his actions, just wanting to contrast how police and the press handle the matter. Compare it to this story. Story 1 excerpt:

'Santaluces drama teacher hunted in student sex case
...
"It is a heinous act," Detective Sgt. Thomas Wallace said. "You send your children to school and expect them to get an education – and not a sex education – especially from the teachers."'

Story 2 excerpt:
'She's the former schoolteacher who had an affair with a student, Vili Fualaau, a relationship that began when the boy was just 12 years old.
...
Mary Kay LeTourneau sacrificed it all: husband, kids, her job and her freedom, all for the love of a schoolboy, Vili Fualaau.

...
In a 1995 home video from a school holiday party, Vili is shown in a black tank top. Within a year, he would get his teacher pregnant*. And she would face prison time.
...
The two were caught together, a scene re-enacted in a TV movie.

Once again, LeTourneau returned to court. Once again, she was pregnant.
...
So is this an incredible love story? Or is it a story of a child molester?

Disgusting, all the way around.

Of course these two similar situations are handled differently. Even though Mary Kay LeTourneau was and still is nuttier than a fruit cake she was born into the decadent aristocratic class Western culture has spawned. Her inherited social class gives her special advantages and privileges in every g*ddamned thing she does.

the male teacher had sex with girls who were 17, just shy of being legally defined as adults, where as Mary Kay had sex with a PRE-TEEN boy who was likely just starting puberty.

I really can't by any stretch of the imagination call the male teachers acts legally wrong outside of the fact that he was a teacher at their school. Judgment wise however, he probably shouldn't have been playing around with two young girls and being careless enough that one got pregnant. Not the best choices but certainly not harmful to society.
