Nifong Gets $9,000 Bill for Disbarment

'DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - The North Carolina State Bar has billed disgraced former prosecutor Mike Nifong nearly $9,000 for hearings that led to his disbarment in the wake of the discredited Duke lacrosse rape case.

A three-member disciplinary commission stripped Nifong of his law license in June, finding he had committed more than two dozen violations of the state's rules of professional conduct while prosecuting three Duke lacrosse players on false rape, sexual assault and kidnapping charges. Nifong apologized to the players at the June hearing.'

I hope he's unable to write it off on his taxes, and eats the whole $9000.00 However, on a more significant note, when is this guy going to face criminal proceedings? In my opinion, anything less than hard prison time for Mike Nifong just underscores how big a joke America's legal system really is.

As a tax preparer, I can safely assure you that legal fees are only deductable if they are to obtain or collect taxable income (yes including alimony). They are not deductable for avoiding prison or saving face.

He was just doing his job exactly as he was expected to do it and exactly as every other DA and AG in the whole of the country does it. He just got caught because the defense team had millions of dollars to expose him.

The rest of them continue as if nothing happened, and thousands of men who are not rich end up in prison because they didn't have the resources available to them to take on the giant machine that is the State.

It's not Nifong, it's the way the laws are written for the purpose of destroying men - guilty and innocent - and the fact that the destruction of mens lives is exactly the goal of the people who created the law.

Nifong is just a pawn who was sacrificed to maintain the status quo. There was not a damn thing "rouge" about him.

Attack the system, not some disgraced ass hole who's buddies sold him up the creek.
