Female teacher sentenced to 60 days for sex with student
Story here. Excerpt:
'A woman who taught at Tenino High School was sentenced to 60 days in jail Monday for having a sexual relationship with a then 16-year-old female student, but she was not ordered to stay away from the teen upon her release.
...
Welter, 38, pleaded guilty to two criminal counts, both gross misdemeanors — communicating with a minor for immoral purposes and sexual misconduct with a minor — as part of a plea deal Monday in Lewis County Superior Court, Hill and Lewis County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Colin Hayes said.
As part of the plea deal, Hayes agreed to dismiss two counts of communicating with a minor for immoral purposes and reduced another count of communicating with a minor for immoral purposes from a felony to a gross misdemeanor."'

Slap on the wrist
No restriction for communication upon release. So, the girl is now "17 and change". The perp will be out soon and will be back with her new, way-too-young-for-her girlfriend, and the only real penalty is that she got sacked from her job. Do you think she will even get on the sex offender registry? If she does, suppose she'll stay there? No. "Equal protection" indeed.
Unbelievable
And just about a month ago a few 13 year old boys were going to get the book thrown at them for slapping a girl's ass (his age). Nope, women are the ones getting the shaft in this society...really.
Well, that's because only male sexuality is harmfull
Or at least that's how society views it. Female sexuality, even when expressed in deviant and (technically) illegal ways is viewed by many as simply harmless and not the traumatic experience that happens when man coerces a female into sex.
As with all things sexual I personally believe there needs to be a balanced approach. I do not think females should be treated as males currently are when they break the law in a sexual way because I do not agree with the way we currently handle these situations. I also do not think that males should be given the slap on the wrist females often get. I think we need to treat everyone equally but at the same time rethink our approaches because the one label fits all (men that is) way we do it now is not benefiting or protecting anyone. It's merely lining the pockets of those in the justice system.
