Sperm donor was liable for support, court rules

Story here. Excerpt:
"Men who donate sperm for artificial insemination can be liable for child support, a court has ruled.
The three-judge Pennsylvania Superior Court panel said that since a sperm donor whose semen produced two children for a lesbian couple subsequently involved himself in the family and gave them money, he had assumed some responsibility for their support."

Nothing good here
You know, I was going to write that I was at least a bit pleased on this one because it might lead down the road to a society where men aren't just considered sperm donors.... but I think I was just feeling optimistic and wanting to see something good out of it. There's nothing positive for men in here that I can see.
The judges actually said that the ruling wouldn't apply to sperm banks where the men are contributing anonymously. So it's not like they're saying if men contribute sperm then they are fathers and have rights.
The judges in this case believe that if you're contributing sperm anonymously then you're not the child's father, but if you know the people that you're contributing sperm to, then you are and you've got to pay for life; even though you've agreed with the mother that you're not going to be a parent, and even if the child is raised with two parents.
I wonder how long it will be before we see an egg donor forced to pay support... I'd wager it will be a long time.
That lesbian friend must have been some piece of work. Ask for sperm to raise a child with another lesbian (let her carry the child), leave the friend and child, forced to pay support and can't handle it, so pass the buck to the original sperm donor friend, and keep fighting him on it until he dies. She really walks away from the whole thing without a scratch on her, while the other two pay all the prices.
Anti-male, air-head judge
I guess if I write a check to Big Brothers, some air head judge might some day consider that "involvement with a family" and make me pay child support. File this one under No Good Deed Goes Unpunished.
