The media (including the men, for psychological reasons involving guilt or other factors best left to Dr. Phil), see men as inviting, politically correct targets. When experts start trumpeting statistics that add up to "men are bad," reporters listen.
For years, I heard bad things about deadbeat dads. They were living it up, while their ex-wives and children had to scrape by. It's a recurring story, and the media regurgitates it regularly. It's also group slander."

quote from article
"Weitzman later admitted she was wrong. She said a computer analyst had made a mistake.."
I wonder if the analyst was a man or a woman. Oh well, I guess if I am asking that question, it means I have a "persecution complex", like a certain unethical loser reporter told me on the phone a couple months ago.

Yep
As usual, when data like this is wrong, noboby double checks their work before taking it live. Of course, the media will take it face value without checking the sources as well. It fits their little agenda so it must be correct, right?
What really pisses me off (like in "War Against Boys" by Sommers) is that when someone does go and check the sources it's always too late. You get a "whoopsie!" at best and the media doesn't care enough to correct their mistakes. Even today you have people quoting incorrect sources (such as 99% of the topics in women's studies courses).
She said a computer analyst had made a mistake..
I'm betting there was no such analyst. Besides, if a prof publishes a grad. student's work under their own name, they should a) take punishment for stealing others' work and b) pay the full price when it's proven wrong, especially if there is a human cost due to ill-conceived policy as a result.
But do a little digging, Weitzman now has tenure as a named professor in the Women's Studies department (where else?) at George Mason University in Virgina. Such are the rewards for politically correct science results, the truth be damned.
I wrote this up before ABC got the idea: here.
