Canada: Liberals set to bar men in some ridings in bid to boost female candidates

Story here. Excerpt:

"OTTAWA (CP) — Liberal Leader Stephane Dion is prepared to take “extraordinary measures” to boost the ranks of women candidates in the next election, including barring men from seeking nominations in some ridings.

During last year’s leadership race, Dion promised that under his watch at least a third of the party’s candidates in the next election would be women.

But campaign organizers have concluded that the ambitious goal will be impossible to reach without some intervention to secure nominations for female candidates."

Patronizing to women, sexist toward men -- not to mention undemocratic. Nice combo.

Interesting that Stephane Dion didn't recommend that men be barred from running in the recent leadership race that he won.

The liberals picked him because Michael Ignatieff was seen as to American and would have threatened the liberal hold on Quebec.

So they picked a complete nincompoop who will pander to special interest groups and hasn't got the first clue about what Canadians really want. He is a terrible leader really.

I can't see his party winning the next election even though Steven Harper is doing more damage to the Conservatives then he is helping to get them a majority government.

You know what they say, we love to hold national elections in Canada. The next one will be no different then the last - except fewer people will go out to vote because elections every year turn people off - and we'll end up with just another minority government.
