More orders coming down for men from on high

ABC News reports that Desperate Housewives' star Felicity Huffman has penned "a guide for guys who want to become good boyfriends (and the women who want to transform them)"... From the excerpts, this sounds like it may have succeeded in hitting a new level for rampant, unabashed misandry. Brace yourselves, `cause she's likely to get at least as much airplay as Maureen Dowd did fifteen months ago.

Um, wouldn't it be a whole lot easier for women to just choose someone they actually like to begin with? Be sure to click on the photo of Huffman looking 'fierce'.

There may actually be some satirical value in this book. And some of what she says strikes a chord, and not all of it seems to me to be misandric, though I agree it does seem to leverage hard on stereotypes and generalizations. To be fair, every book on the sexes I have ever read does this.

Speaking as not just a tire-changer but a resident of the "Town Called Lame, population one," though, I can say with some authority though that it isn't bad here. In fact it's quite relaxed and generally low-stress, with some very nice sunsets.

When this book is published, I will stand in front of Border's Bookstore taking pictures of any castrated man slave that buys this crap. I suspect the book is actually intended for women who want to drive their boyfriend's crazy with ridiculous theories based on....nothing! I wonder if they'll be a "pop-up" version for the mentally challenged women who don't know what the hell they want. If these women really want to help men, let them include a bottle of Midol with every copy of this book.

Yea, feminism was supposedly going to free women to love for qualities other than money, but they still tend to choose men they can enslave with emotional abuse of one sort or another. There couldn't possibly be any other reason, because if men are as fundamentally flawed, clueless and pathetic as this sort of stuff frequently makes them out to be, what would a woman want with a creature so far below her otherwise?

That's great, anthony! (damn, wish I'd thought of it...)

mcc99: Certainly, however a decent/fair/honest book would at least emphasize some of the positive stereotypes, too. Oh, I forget -- there aren't any, especially regarding single guys.

And I should note that they had the author on Good Morning America near the end of the show. Nothing she said bore much resemblance to what was printed at the website. In fact, she was plugging the book as a way to "spice up your lovelife", but it was otherwise a content-free appearance. I'm guessing with V-Day right around the corner she'll be making the rounds of the talk shows with her "insights", so perhaps in the fullness of time more will become clear.

I made the big mistake of going onto the ABC 'News' message board and tried raising some of the issues surrounding this book for discussion. Needless to say, it wasn't long before the "dialogue" degenerated into the psychologization of yours truly and I got the "you're sick, lonely, bitter, yada yada and should seek help" lecture from some woman who had just previously urged me to "lighten up"!

It's really true that feminism has totally outlawed thinking, and that trying to reason with women is like trying to eat soup with a fork.
