Essay: Feminism has destroyed a generation of men
Submitted by anthony on Fri, 2006-12-08 19:28
Article here. Excerpt:
"My father's generation defined their wives: nowadays, the role has completely reversed and men are defined by women. As a result, their definition of themselves has faltered and society has been cruel towards their attempts to redefine themselves."
"Women, meanwhile, are groomed relentlessly to succeed. How did we get into such a predicament? No feminist I ever knew wanted to see a world in which men were beaten by women: a world in which one dominant group was just replaced by another."

The article is partly wrong. It is not really a pendulum swing
Men never defined their wives. Up until the 60's BOTH husband and wife were PLAYING ROLES. Check out Farrell's "Women Don't Hear What Men Don't Say".
Decades from now when the dust settles, our descendants will be taught that the whole thing was a "pendulum swing". That will be incorrect.

Feminism Is a Bitch ... Bitch!
This is one of the more intelligent articles I have read, authored by a typical "I’m not a feminist" feminist suffering the angst of female liberation in the U.K., where there is a severe lack of marriageable men.
While I appreciate her despair, as an MRA, I am totally in favor of complete female liberation and independence.
I want women to be liberated from my wallet, my taxes, my property, my inheritance, my future earnings.
I want women to be independent of my house, my cars, my vacations, my pension.
I want women to finally step up to the plate and demonstrate just how they --are "independent" of men -- as their safety net, their oppressor-alibis, their vicimhood, their basic laziness.
(Oh, crap! Did I suggest that most women are lazy? I guess that would be a lifestyle choice for those sitting upon a golden source of income….)
Most of all, I want women to be guiltlessly liberated and independent from my consideration, my affection, my regard, and my complete and utter indifference to their circumstances, their desires, and their plight.
I guess that makes me a feminist, right?
;-)
Sorry, my conscience has forced me to comment again
The more I reread the article, the more I become convinced that the writer is simply another mediocre, ignorant, over-generalizing alarmist idiot.
Case in point: "No feminist I ever knew wanted to see a world in which men were beaten by women: a world in which one dominant group was just replaced by another"
She must not have known very many early feminists, like mainly Friedan and Steinem.
"The stereotypical male has different strengths, abilities and weaknesses to the stereotypical woman"
Why is she wasting our time talking about the stereotypical man and woman? The fact that she is basing this statement on stereotypes makes it meaningless.
"work, this last bastion, where men still hold on to the reins of power"
Wrong. See Farrell's "The Myth of Male Power"
"Last week, a survey revealed that 39 per cent of women who work full-time believe they earn more than their men. The word 'believe' is important here..Translated into numbers, that means 1.8 million women in full-time work across the country now earn more than their partners.
Shoddy logic as well as journalism. She points out the subjectivity issue, but then transforms it into a "statistic" which she wants us to believe.
Even as I post these items, I grow depressed and weary that so many people out there take this kind of drivel to heart. In the interests of maintaining my sanity, I wish not to mention any more of the fallacies in the article (of which there are many more).

Should some one tell her....
That the first female medical school in North America opened in 1843? Or that upper class women have had total access to education since well, at least as early as ancient Egypt 5000 years ago. In the past (as well as today) the lower ones social standing (class) the less access to education they had regardless of gender.
When have women ever been chattel? Does she perhaps believe 'The handmaids tale' that she read back in college was anything more then a work of fiction?
HUSBANDS DEFINED THEIR WIVES?
I will never forget when my Father died when I was 12. My Mother bragged that she had made him miserable for 20 years. She was serious. I am 52, so when did Men ever define their Women? None of the Men in the neighborhood did anything without their wive's consent. Being an observant individual even as a child, which I have been doing all my life; I find that that to espouse that which one has read as gospel without "trying it on" for size makes one a biological tape recorder. Of course in our society one has to conform in order to survive, at least to some extent. But as to playing roles, yes training and societal institutions of control ensure that individuals behave or they suffer. Gotta start thinking outside the box folks. The current paradigm has been in existence for thousands of years. About time the People started thinking for themselves. It is time to really start living out our thoughts as Human Beings. Instead of being ruled by fear.
RULED BY FEAR
OK - so i'll bite.
Ruled by fear?
You mean, you have a wife who stays at home and when she gets mad she threatens to divorce?
You mean, you've bought 2 new cars, an $800,000 home, have $500,000 in your 401k account, 2 young kids and a gym membership?
And she threatens to divorce if you don't give her more, money, happiness, vacations, etc?
And she gets most of what is listed above? Even though she has not paid a dime for any of it?
So - on what grounds do you negotiate? She HAS the superior position!
This is EXACTLY why marriage is a very bad decision, unless SHE is providing everything.

Carrying Women
Thats right man, I agree with it. Men have carried women for generations and now women have spit in men's faces for the last time.
I used to help women all the time. NO MORE
I refuse to help a woman in anyway. Car broke down on the road?? tough
Don't understand something about the computer?? tough Figure it out, you are so equal to me?
Stupid woman across the street couldn't start her mower. She pulled and pulled on that rope. She kicked it and yelled at it. I just laughed and laughed. Finally one of the jerk neighbor men went out to help her. FOOL
A woman's opinion of men? Thanks, but no thanks.
After the decades of misandric, one-sided BULLSHIT that every man has endured so women could have even more privileges, and be even more "equal" than they already were, no feminist is entitled to an opinion on men, maleness, boys or masculinity. They lost that right when they joined the hate movement that is feminism, as did the "average" women who greedily helped themselves to feminism's ill-gotten goodies without an instant of thought about why they were so "entitled" compared to their brothers, fathers and sons.
Oh, really Mz. Ex-Feminist? You've decided that men might exist and be human beings too? Isn't that sweet. Now fuck off, you've done more than enough damage already.
