"Snapped"

The Mary Winkler murder case could be a good candidate for this show. Mary confessed to police last March that she shot her minister husband while he slept because she "snapped." According to news reports she had lost a large sum of money to a scam. That had created some tension between Mary and her husband Matthew. The sweet wife of a Tennessee minister (whose marriage seemed by friends and neighbors to be peaceful and happy) is alleged to have shot her sleeping husband before fleeing to the Gulf coast with their small children.

The newspapers and online articles have presented Mary as a sort of tragic victim who may have been "pushed" to do what she did. Emotional abuse from her husband, the stress and pressures of being the wife of a Southern minister, etc etc may have driven her to commit homicide. The Tennessean newspaper in Nashville has written articles that attempt to engender sympathy for poor Mary. (She must have been "pushed" to do what she did.) You can bet the tone of the news articles would be different had Matthew Winkler shot his wife while she slept.

She's a woman and a mother who killed her husband. She must be innocent. She needs therapy, not a prison cell. She'll receive a much more lenient sentence than a wife-killing husband would get, everything else being similar.

It doesn't matter the crime. Murdering children or a spouse or a boyfriend. Committing statutory rape of underage male students. The female will be treated leniently and sympathetically compared to how a male defendant would be treated. The media, feminist groups and the justice system will work to protect the female. That's what feminists mean by "equality."
