Father to be tried for circumcising daugher

Taking a knife to one's daughter's genitals in the name of tradition is wrong-- but so too is doing it to one's son. Yet I wonder when boys will get equal protection under the law in this matter? In any case, what this man did to his daughter was wrong. Had he done it to his son though, or paid someone else to do it, he would not be facing trial.

Story here. Excerpt:

'LAWRENCEVILLE, Georgia (AP) -- The trial of an Atlanta-area father accused of circumcising his 2-year-old daughter with scissors is focusing attention on an ancient African practice that experts say is slowly becoming more common in the U.S. as immigrant communities grow.

Khalid Adem, a 30-year-old immigrant from Ethiopia, is charged with aggravated battery and cruelty to children.

Human rights observers said they believe this is the first criminal case in the U.S. involving the 5,000-year-old practice.'

What happened to this girl is wrong and unacceptable.

Even though this is the FIRST criminal trial, this will be twisted into some national epidemic. Our "friends" (oprah and kim gandy) are going to manipulate this one case into a national crisis. Yet the ritual known as ripping the foreskin off infant boys will, as usual, receive virtually no attention. Genital integrity based on gender? Has society determined one is more important than another? (apparently so)

Khalid Adem is only *alleged* to have done to his daughter.

*His* testimony is that he is innocent, and that it must have been done by his ex-wife and/or members of her family.

While his daughter's taped testimony from when she was only 3 years old identifies him as the mutilator, it should be kept in mind that her mother had sole custody of her *prior* to the girl's mutilation.

Is anyone else here thinking to themselves "PAS, false accusations, and implanted false memories"?

Furthermore, according to at least one article I've read, somehow the mother managed to not notice what had been done to the daughter for well over a year!

Even though she had SOLE CUSTODY!

For me, that's the killer app involved. I don't like to shout, but. . .for crying out loud, how can a parent FAIL to notice, FOR A YEAR AND THREE MONTHS, that their daughter's clitoris has been CUT OFF!?

Who the heck is prosecuting this case -- MIKE NIFONG!?

Yes, could well be this is a frame-up. It's one to watch, indeed.
