Mary Winkler out on bond
Submitted by bull on Tue, 2006-08-15 18:48
"I have nerve now, and I have self-esteem. So, my ugly came out," Alabama investigator Stan Stabler quoted Mary Winkler as saying, according to a report on the hearing published in The Jackson Sun. She referred to herself as a "moron" and an "evil woman," the newspaper reported.
My bet is that eventually the preacher will be condemned as an evil patriarchic oppressor and she will be painted as poor Ms. Wonderful who fell victim to his abuse and rightfully killed him in self-defense.

Mary Winkler out on bond
I suspect she'll do less than 10 years, and possibly less than seven. She'll have a significant and growing number of sympathizers, especially if she plays the emotionally abused wife card, which she almost certainly will. Notice that the prosecutors have not given notice that they will pursue a capital murder conviction. (I'm guessing they probably won't, but I hope I'm wrong.)
If a husband had done this to his wife under similar circumstances, would there be a comparable reaction from the public, the media and the criminal justice system?
My heart goes out to Mary Winkler
From article:
"Farese urged the media to respect his client's privacy as she adjusts to her freedom. 'She will have to get used to carrying a purse again. She mentioned that today, ' he said before hustling her into a waiting car."
If we could insert .wav files into these posts, you would hear violins right now.
Of course ultimately, she will have to get used to carrying a gun again. She better take out a restraining order on herself, before it's too late!!

How About Some Child Support Mary?
Law enforcement has been bending over backwards to accomdate her.
She was even allowed to be taken to the funeral home to view her husband's body if you can believe that!
Her bond was set at $750K which means that however her case turns out the bonding company will get $75K and possibly more if she jumps bail. Somehow she got that money to make 10% of the bond. And there is speculation it came from the media for rights to her story. No one connected with this crime, lawyers, judges, relatives etc., have suggested that the 75 grand should have gone into an escrow account for her 3 children all of whom are under 10 years of age. The sacred obligation of child support doesn't seem to apply to Mary Winkler even when she has the money. $75,000 would have gone a long way in supporting her children but her few weeks of freedom takes priority.
Something is seriously wrong!
Something is seriously wrong!
Please, take a moment out of your busy day to clearly understand that when it comes to Domestic Violence and partner homicide...your gender makes all the difference in the World under today's laws and perspectives!
I would ask that all of you reverse the gender in this story...keeping all other information intact and then tell me that a man who murdered his wife by shooting her in the back while she lay in bed sleeping would be walking out of jail today...or at any time in the near or distant future!
* This was not an act of self defense!
* She never gave any indications about domestic violence in the relationship until AFTER she met with her legal team and women's organizations came forward to plant the seeds in the minds of the public that somehow he must have driven her to this act of murder! (These are the same organizations that fight against victim blaming??? They don't seem to mind blaming a dead victim if it happens to be a dead husband!)
* She fled the scene of her crime with her children. (A man in a similar circumstance would have been charged with murder, kidnapping, child endangerment...and a host of whatever crimes they could add to the list and would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law!
He certainly would not have been released on bail, given a job and been portrayed as a demoralized victim of
his wife's mental, emotional and verbal abuse!
Things have gone terribly wrong when we release a woman who murders her defenseless husband and pity her as the "real" victim...! This man can't defend his reputation, he no longer can speak to us...he can't refute her claims and many will offer this woman the "recipe for success" in making it seem like she had no choice but to kill her husband.
When we deny men restraining orders to keep them safe from abusive wives and partners and then those same women assault or kill them or other men because we deny that they can "harm" a man enough to concern ourselves with!
When we " cut a deal" for a woman who murders her 5 innocent children and then make it seem like she was somehow a victim of her mental illness and her "controlling" husband. The grieving father is then portrayed by the DV Industry as some sort of monster who forced his wife to have their children and did not care for her emotional needs!
What message does this send to men, women and to their children, both boys and girls...?
Women's lives are more valuable than men's and even their defensless children?
Women have emotional needs and men do not feel hurt, neglected, diminished, controlled, depressed?
Women and girl's abusive traits or violence can be excused, but men and boys MUST be held accountable not only for abuse and violence, with no excuse...but must be "re-programmed" ! (such as "Coach Your Boys Not to Abuse Women" programs and Batterers Intervention Programs for men)
Female violence is applauded by some women's organizations as "female empowerment" while male violence is met with zero tolerance even if it's perpetrated in self defense!
Girls are becoming more violent while boys are trying to show that they are not monsters.
Girls have become empowered to be abusive because they know that it's not likely that they will be held accountable...while some of our boys are afraid to look at a girl because it's possible he could be accused of something he didn't even think of doing!
This news story is just another example of our society being gender biased when it comes to domestic violence and related issues...
What do you think?
What kind of difference can all of us make BEFORE it's too late for our sons and daughters and all of the generations of girls and boys in the future??
No one deserves to be abused and no one has the right to get away with murder!
Feel free to respond with your opinions, thoughts and suggestions or not, but at least think about where we are now and where we want to be with this kind of situation in the future!
Take care and be SAFE,

If?!!?....
Gregory writes:
"...especially if she plays the emotionally abused wife card..."
She's already done more than that. Trusty Greta Van Susteren is on the scene here.
Next Phase
She has killed him physically; now, all that remains is for her to destroy his reputation before the children and the rest of society. Of course, he will not be able to refute anything she claims; it's her word against what? And judging from the fact that she was hoodwinked by a 419 scam, she is most likely putty in the hands of the feminists who will mold her thoughts into believing that she was abused and justified in killing the preacher! I notice in the article that she states "I have nerve now, and I have self-esteem." This is evidence that she is a cold-blooded viper. How can anyone make a statement like that so shortly after murdering someone is beyond me! If I killed someone, rightfully or not, my conscience would bother me for a long time. Apparently, she is fine with hers!
She will not have to do anything to destroy his reputation....
.... the media and her lawyers will do all the work for her. She's just a poor woman and can't even think for herself, how can she be expected to have to come up with lie after lie to justify her murdering to her children when tax payers are paying her lawyers to di it?
It really troubles me that the CNN article refers to her as a Widow (only accurate if preceded by the word black and in reference to the spider that kills and eats the males after mating).
Even more troubling is that her children are allowed to visit her. Her kiids should not be allowed anywhere near her. Even if she is not a threat to them physically she is a cold blooded murder who can not have a posative impact on their young minds.
How can anything justify killing some one in their sleep?
He was a man of God and not violent even according to her. She probably deserved his critacism for being stupidly scammed out of $17000 which likely caused the money problems which created the stress between them. It was her fault. But heaven forbid a woman take responsability for anything when it's far easier to shoot your husband while he sleeps and become a feminist heroin.

Per SAFE-NH.org post below, check out this informative lecture by Dr. Murray Straus, researcher in partner violence.
QUITE informative - even to those of us who already have heard lots of the stats!!

Poor Mary!
I can’t believe how people are rallying around this whack-job! The focus is on making excuses for her and concern for her safety and comfort. The way I look at it, he may have been the preacher, but, she played God. Assuming she was abused (i.e. got her feelings hurt), there were many more options available to her rather than cold-blooded murder. Options that are largely lacking for males in abusive situations I might add. If she needed to create some drama, with her at center stage, she could have just ran away with the kids and not murdered the preacher. Only an evil deviant would opt for murder as a first choice! The whole scenario makes me want to puke!
Poor Mary Article Here
Poor Mary
The Tennessean.com article ends with these sentences:
"At Cleaners Express, Pillow said that 99 percent of the people who've come in asking about Winkler have been positive about her being back in town.
'We knew the Mary that was here before,' he said. 'I guess she would have had to be real pushed to do what she's done.' "
Other Tennessean articles about this case carry the same sympathetic tone toward poor, poor Mary Winkler. "She would have had to be real pushed to do what she's done."
Poor Mary was a victim. She was "pushed" to do what she did.
The media, the public and the courts will probably make sure poor Mary gets an appropriate sentence...maybe some counseling... before she's allowed to return to her kids.
Do Not Let Her Children Near Her
Her little girls should never be near her. After she shot her husband in cold blood she packed the girls up in the car and made a 475 mile trip to the coast of Alabama where she claimed she was going to rent a beachfront condo. She took the shotgun with her when she fled and it sure wasn't because she wanted it for a souvenir! More than likely she wanted to finish the job by making it a multiple murder and suicide!
