DV in the media - My Super Ex-Girlfriend

I saw an ad for a new movie today, and checked it out at Rotten Tomatoes (check it here. Stars Uma Thurman, it's not some byway b-movie.

The outline is basically this: Nice guy meets neurotic, controlling girl, they date, she gets too freaky, so he breaks up. The kicker being that she actually has super powers. What then follows - at least based on the outline and trailer - is her berating, embarrassing and beating him up and generally trying to ruin the poor guys life.

Official outline is: "Everyone's had a painful parting of the ways with a romantic partner. We pick up the pieces and move on. But for one New York guy, it's not going to be so easy. When he breaks up with his girlfriend, he discovers his ex is actually the reluctant superhero, G-Girl. A scorned woman, she unleashes her super powers to humiliate and torment him."

So now we have yet another major movie release showing that it's acceptable and even funny to torture and otherwise humiliate men, even when they've done nothing wrong - time to boycott for all we're worth...

As I write this, my wife is watching CSI, which may be the worst of the worst. I have to hum to myself so I can't hear what they are saying.

Nearly every one of my male friends is eagerly awaiting this film.

Whats wrong with men that we seem to enjoy watching our own persecution on film?

Are we really that self loathing?

If you think the humiliation, dehumanization and sadism against men in "entertainment" is bad, now, just wait. It's gonna get MUCH worse. We are just seeing the tip of the proverbial iceberg, at the moment...,

It doesn't shock me at all.
The feminists have been very successful in creating a culture of self-loathing, wussie-poopie males.
American men were once a proud, rugged people. But now more and more of them are nothing more than limp wristed pseudo women. I have really been considering moving to another country, where it isn't a crime to be a man or to be masculine. In America, it seems that men and women have literally REVERSED GENDERS. Too weird for me...

Thundercloud.
"Hoka hey!"

Honestly, I couldn't find any "famous" male DV victims to use on the poster, so I decided to go for a famous female.

What do you think of This ?

Based on the previews, I'm not sure this is entirely bad. While it is presented in a comedic light, at no time is it presented as acceptable. This woman is behaving in a manner that is unacceptable and everyone recognizes that in the movie. While I'm not entirely sure how this could be used to bring attention to the seriousness of DV against males, it is an open presentation of DV against males.

As far as I'm concerned, this shines a spotlight on the issue, something that needs to be done. The current problem is not that we find it acceptable, but that people refuse to believe it exists. I think I will be seeing the movie and using it as a means to open dialog with people.

Two words grow and up.

I can’t believe you really take offence at the sound of this film. It’s a parodying social commentary on how crazy women use all sorts’ tricks and methods to hold onto a descent guy. Granted I don’t know if the guys descent or not in the film cus i havent see it yet, but **** it’s not an indication that men are weak and can’t handle themselves, plus its fiction, that means not real. When was the last time you saw a women crush a knife with her bear hands on the blade when she gets mad?

I personally would never allow anyone to walk all over me, let alone a women.

Siolis Deoden

PS: The women I know are mostly panzeys and those few who are strong don’t even try to use their gender as a control method of any guy I know. Grow up or grow a spine, whichever you happen to be missing.

>"Granted I don't know if the guys decent or not"

He's probably not.
This is Hollywood, we're talking about, after all...
