'Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), who announced this month he is running for president, said Tuesday he would prioritize finding a female running mate if he is the Democratic nominee.
Booker told MSNBC host Rachel Maddow that while he does not want to box himself in, he would be “looking to women first” as his pick for vice president.
The New Jersey Democrat is running in a primary field with unprecedented diversity, with six women already running for president, as well as multiple people of color.
“You will rarely see a Democratic ticket anymore without gender diversity, race diversity,” Booker told Maddow, noting that he wished there was a female president right now, referring to Hillary Clinton.'

If the dems lose then what?
If the democrats lose in spite of their diversity schtick then what do they do? Do they double down and keep themselves in opposition for the foreseeable future or do they start bailing on the diversity doctrine?
I'm guessing the former. I'm hoping I'll be able to ride to my grave seeing them kept out of power as a consequence.
Ideologues don't change positions
It's a religion to them. They can't see obvious truths, such as "positive discrimination" is in fact discrimination. For every beneficiary of pos. discr., there are one or more victims of it. Choosing candidates based on indellible characteristics is discrimunatory regardless of why you do it. Failing to choose from the full field of candidates probably results in suboptimal outcomes UNLESS it just so happens your pick IS in fact the best qualified of all the candidates. If so however that is just happenstance. Point is, a truly fair process sees all candidates evaluated in a sex- and color-blind fashion.
