SoHo pharmacy's man tax: Time for action
Recent story on MANN here. Does this annoy you? It does me. The store owner says that men find it "funny" and if it works as a promotion, maybe she'll keep the "man tax" as a permanent thing.
Their phone number is here. To save you the trouble, it's 212-598-9790, fax: 212-674-6980. Especially if you live in the area, call them. But even if you don't, they need to hear from you. What to say? Tell them that the market determines prices, not gender. Further, that while discriminatory pricing may for some weird reason be legal, it is very bad P/R. Remind her that men's money is as green as women's and despite the fact that her male customers do not seem openly unhappy with this "promotion", it is hard to see how anyone can stay happy with paying above-market prices for things for too long. Also tell her that sexism is indeed vile, which is why sexists like her are. You may also want to suggest she reduce the prices on "feminine products" to match prices on similar "men's products" rather than try to gouge men and alienate them. Wonder why she didn't think of doing that?
"Vile". Use the word "vile".
Remember: In the heat of the moment, passion can move people to say things they otherwise may not. Don't let things slip out that are unwarranted. Anything that can be interpreted as threatening, even if not meant so, must be avoided. And, avoid swear words. It distracts from the message you are delivering.
