Feminism is fuelling depression in men

'While it is important that men reveal their emotions and be honest to their feelings, it’s also true that courage and resilience are important.

The unfortunate reality, since the publication of Germaine Greer’s The Female Eunuch in 1970, is that the feminist movement has undermined such manly virtues and attributes.

In addition to labelling men as misogynist and sexist, feminists argue that male characteristics such as being physically active and showing courage are negative and counter-productive.

The American feminist Camille Paglia, and much to the disgust of the sisterhood, in a 2013 interview condemns the feminist movement for emasculating boys and men and for undermining the status of the US military service.

For Paglia, the problem starts early when she argues: “Primary school education is a crock, basically. It’s oppressive to anyone with physical energy, especially guys” and “They’re making a toxic environment for boys. Primary education does everything in its power to turn boys into neuters.”

Examples in Australia include mothers not letting their sons play war games with swords and pistols, schools banning superhero costumes like Spiderman and Batman and not keeping the score in junior soccer and football. Not surprisingly, advocates of what is known as the Men’s Movement, such as the American author of Iron John, Robert Bly, argue that undermining traditional characteristics associated with manliness has led to generations of men unable to be resilient and to cope with adversity.'
