How to Femsplain Man-Bashing

Article here. Excerpt:

'One of the more irritating aspects of the current feminist revival is the steady stream of nasty commentary about men and male behavior, often on a very personal level -- often accompanied by the use of "man-" as a derogatory prefix ("manspreading," "mansplaining," even "manslamming" -- thankfully that one didn't take). The latest addition to the genre comes from New York Times op-ed contributor Julia Baird, who proposes "manologue" as a term for the (alleged) tendency of male speakers to hog the floor and go on and on and on.

I'll readily concede that pontificating is a behavior more commonly found in men, whether due to innate personality differences or cultural norms. It's the flip side of the positive trait, also more common in men, of having confidence in one's opinions. (Of course, tendencies are only tendencies; one of the worst monologuers I've ever seen at public events was female.) But at least some of the research Baird cites to show that men talk more than women "in almost professional setting" doesn't quite confirm her claim. For instance: "The larger the group, the more likely men are to speak (unless it is in a social setting like a lunch break)."'
