Brooks Brothers, Maria Shriver kick off a conversation about masculinity

Article here. Excerpt:

'America is in the throes of a masculinity crisis.

That was the takeaway from an hour-long panel discussion moderated by Maria Shriver at the Paley Center for the Media in Beverly Hills on Thursday, which followed the local premiere screening of Jennifer Siebel Newsom’s documentary on masculinity, “The Mask You Live In.”
...
The documentary starts with a George Orwell quote: “He wears a mask, and his face grows to fit it.” It goes on to present a sobering -- if at times simplistic -- look at the chaos caused by the narrow definition of masculinity in America today (which emphasizes athletic ability, sexual prowess, economic success and emotional detachment), some of its root causes and the myriad problems flowing from it, including drug abuse, violence, sexual assault and depression. The film includes interviews with dozens of professionals and turns the camera on many, many males of the species, from those barely past toddlerhood to white-haired retirees.'

I cant help but notice that the "myriad" of problems they are stating are a result of mis-guided masculinity (which the article lists as "drug abuse, violence, sexual assault and depression" are the same problems that are rampant in matriarchal societies (ghettos). I think matriarchy and single mother households might be responsible for these things.

But when men do speak up and talk about the problems they face, they're called either "whiny" or "misogynist." What the authors really want is for men to speak up in ways that agree with the narrative they're pushing. They only want to hear what they want to hear. They don't want pure unadulterated male expression; they want limited male expression.

The crisis for men today is fairly straightforward: men are still expected/required to live up to their traditional responsibilities and obligations while receiving none of the benefits and rights that once came with those. Men are expected to take responsibility for their children but have no rights to those children. Men are expected to take financial responsibility for women but can expect nothing in return. So men are starting to reject the traditional male role and go MGTOW.

Walter Scott is all men need to know about being a man today. Fulfill your obligations or get shot in the back. On the other hand, if you find a way to avoid those obligations, you won't get shot in the back. Which is the better choice?
