Double-standards around female-on-male DV exposed via experiment
Story here. From 2006, but still worth bringing up now or any time. Alas, the video is no longer available, but the article is. Excerpt:
'Fortunately, the troubling scene isn't real. The abusive woman and her boyfriend are actors, hired by "Primetime" for a hidden camera experiment.
On previous shows, "Primetime" has staged scenes of abuse in which the man is the aggressor, and the woman is the victim. And in these situations, passersby -- men and women -- often stepped up and intervened. So producers were curious. What would happen if the tables were turned, and the man was suddenly the victim? Would people be just as willing to come to his defense?
This staged scenario happens more often in real life than you may think. According to Colgate University psychology professor Carrie Keating, women abusing, even assaulting their male partners "is a big problem in this country."
"There are some data that suggest that women actually hit more than men do," says Keating. "Men create more damage, but women hit more than men do."
A report prepared for the Centers for Disease Control estimates that each year there are over 800,000 serious cases of men being physically abused by women. But the actual figures are believed to be much higher, since many men are often too embarrassed to admit being the victim of abuse by a woman.'

i wunders
if the courts/police still use the larger aggressor rule, or whatever it was called, that made sure the guy was always put in jail ANY time somebody called the police in a d.v. situation? I remember guys like this, getting the crap beat out of them, would be afraid to call, and when the call was made the victim (man) went to jail, always. they would probably have put Steve Hawkins (invalid) in jail in those not-so-long-ago days.
kinda like what they say is happening to women nowadays eh? afraid to report being abused for whatever reason.
if its not being used anymore is it only because so many more females outweigh their mates these full figured days?
big vs. small
i was reading back to some of thundercloud's comments on this issue, from nearly a decade ago.
he asked an interesting question. he asked: "what if a smaller, weaker man attacks a larger, stronger man, which man goes to jail?"
well, of course the obvious answer is the man that is the 'aggressor'.
so why should gender play a role in such a thing?
the person that instigates should always be the one to be incarcerated.
funny how that isn't usually the case, when 'gender' is involved,eh?
...i miss thundercloud.
