Three new book reviews from J. Steven Svoboda
Three new book reviews from the executive director of Attorneys for the Rights of the Child, J. Steven Svoboda. I look forward to his book reviews. These cover the following:
- Stand by Your Manhood: A Game-Changer for Modern_Men, Peter Lloyd
- Southern Man: Legacy of Fortitude, A Southern Heroes Novel, Connie Chastain
- Sexual Impolitics: Heresies on Sex, Gender and Feminism, Neil Lyndon
Re "Southern Man...": if you have any immediate prejudices about the book because of its title, I ask you to reserve judgment. The phrase "southern man" has unfortunately come to be used in a pejorative way in certain circles due to the influence both of US history as well as Neil Young's song by the same name, when in fact it simply refers to a man from the southern part of the US. Projecting one's own prejudices or presumptions around men from the US south (i.e., white men from the south) is as bigoted a behavior as doing likewise to any other class of person based on ethnicity, creed, sex, other place of origin, etc. Bigotry is bigotry, period. Anyway, if you need more third party commentary, try out this review.
