"Fabricated stories could harm true rape victims"
Article here. Excerpt:
'A recent revelation that a Palm Springs teenager fabricated a story about a kidnapping and sexual assault is a costly back step in the cultural campaign to combat sexual violence, which some experts say may dissuade true rape victims from reporting their attackers to police.
...
False reports of rape are rare, but even a few cases can do incalculable damage to the nationwide efforts to expose and apprehend sexual predators. False reports make the public more suspicious of actual rape victims, and can disillusion law enforcement so they are less receptive to future reports of such offenses. The ramifications are magnified when a few false reports are given more media coverage than real cases of rape, which strike every day.
Worst of all, false reports make actual rape victims question whether their stories will be believed. Afraid to come forward, these victims are more likely to suffer in silence, leaving their attackers free to strike again.
"It hurts us," said Scott Berkowitz, president of the Rape Abuse & Incest National Network, the largest anti-sexual violence organization in the country. "False reports make the public doubt, and they make police more skeptical the next time a real victim walks in the door. Anytime police put a lot of energy into a case that turns out not to have been true, it is naturally going to discourage them and make them more suspicious next time."
...
Speaking generally, Program Director Winette Brenner said false reports often stem from deep-seated pain. Every case is different, but most of the time a person who makes a false report is in desperate need, and does not have any malicious intent, Brenner said.
"It's a cry for help … from a person who is in so much pain that they don't know how to deal with that pain any further," she added.
As troubling as a false report can be, some experts argue that the larger issue is disproportionate media coverage given to these cases.'

And a specific man falsely accused?
Well this article is typical, and of course it makes valid points re false accusers de-legitimizing ppl w/ actual, valid criminal complaints do get less credibility, esp. if they can't immediately produce forensic evidence or some degree of corroborating witness input. But that'd be true for any other crime, too. But somehow with rape, ppl suspend anything like critical thinking abt these things. Well, as some readers may know, I have my theory as to why rape is treated this way specifically and believe it's driven largely by ingrained species survival-related instinct, which is very difficult to control for, much less control.
Entirely absent is any mention of the terrible effects false accusations have on men specifically accused. And then there's the effect it has on men generally; each false accusation not discovered to be false adds more fuel to thr misandry fire.
Yeah, and...
False accusations also harm the men falsely accused of rape, but no one cares about the harm done to men falsely accused. Their names are splattered all over the headlines while the accuser remains anonymous.
But, gosh, it just might hurt a woman who is truly a victim of rape. And it might. Crying wolf usually backfires. That's why there's a story about it.
But it also hurts the men falsely accused.
standard feminist crap
false accusations of rape, molestation or domestic violence are a sentence in itself. the guy released last week in the news had done 19 years in prison for molestation, falsely accused. heck. you could probably murder 2-3 people and not do that kind of time. men who have been assisted by the 'Innocence Project' and freed on false charges (about 300 so far) have served an average of 17 years hard time.
'false accusations are rare'? I've heard cops say at least 1/2 of all accusations women make against men are false, and done for a myriad of reasons such as:
* make somebody else (husband.bf/gf) jealous
* as a cover for her own wrongdoing
* because he broke up w/ her
* because he wouldn't change or give out a better grade
I could go on and on w/ the excuses I have heard over the years. entire sports teams have been lied about, and falsely skewered by the msm. heck, its common knowledge false accusations are s.o.p. used by lawyers in messy divorces. but all of a sudden we are to believe false accusations by women are a rare thing? obviously not as rare as the truth among feminists.
False accusations are about as common as...
feminists telling yet another "noble lie" for their cause.
I once took a close look at the Air Force Academy scandal. About 8 female cadets appeared on Oprah claiming they had been punished by the AFA for reporting their rapes. That's not exactly the whole truth.
One of two things happened in each case:
Either the cadet was already in trouble for an unrelated issue or she had fraternized with an older male cadet in violation of the honor code. Jessica Brakey, the gal who started it all, was in serious trouble for a number of things, including taking a baseball bat to another cadet. She was about two weeks from being expelled when she first claimed she had been raped two years earlier. Her claim benefited her but it was unconvincing; the cadet she accused was not convicted. Still, his career was put on hold for about two years. A similar scenario was true for most of the other cadets: they were in serious trouble for other reasons before they claimed they had been raped.
A couple had fraternized with older cadets in violation of the cadet honor code. So they claimed they were raped and, in effect, got a get out of jail free card. The male cadets, on the other hand, faced serious problems--first for fraternization, second for rape.
And the majority of the accusers were white women and the majority of the accused were black men. Not all. Jessica Brakey was black and claimed a black cadet raped her.
By the time I took a hard look at their stories, I was convinced none of them was raped. But their stories had the intended effect. Most of them avoided any trouble. And they created a huge scandal.
So when people say women don't like about rape, I say they're lying. Women lie about rape for a lot of reasons--some almost trivial. But for the female cadets, crying rape served as a way to avoid the consequences on their actions.
