Charges unlikely for Houston dad accused of shooting daughter’s boyfriend, prosecutor says
Story here. The only reason why this boy is dead is because the daughter lied to her father by claiming she didn't know him. Excerpt:
'The Houston father who police say fatally shot a 17-year-old boy who was inside his daughter’s bedroom early Thursday morning will likely not be charged, an area prosecutor told MyFoxHouston.com.
...
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and a grand jury will ultimately decide if charges are appropriate. But so far it appears the father, who was only identified as a 55-year-old in reports, was awaken by one of his other children at about 2:20 a.m. He was told someone was in his 16-year-old daughter's bedroom and he grabbed his gun.
He reportedly found the teen in bed with his daughter and confronted him. His daughter apparently told him she did not know the boy.
The father said he told the teen not to move, but reportedly saw the teen reach for something, at which point police say the father opened fire. The teen did not have a gun. His daughter later confessed that she snuck her boyfriend, 17, into the house, the report said.'

Didn't know him???
In bed, assuming no screaming of "RAPE!", etc. Maybe just lying there together, dunno, possibly even clothed, too. Don't have the details. But presumably, the girl was not acting like she was in bed with a total stranger (guessing most girls would find this circumstance at least alarming!).
Now dad walks in and says, "WTF is going on here??" Silence. "I don't know him, daddy! He just sort of... appeared here. He just arrived!"
"Daddy" says "Don't move, you punk!", or words to that effect. "Daddy" had a gun, though. Hmm, maybe he heard "carrying on" in the bedroom, or just the voice of someone other than his daughter's coming from the room (a male voice at that). So naturally, he... gets a gun. Anyway, he's armed. He now says the boy moved and reached for something and so he shot him dead.
No charges. Well, I suppose, there's the heat of the moment thing to consider, and maybe he *did* see the boy seem to reach for something -- cell phone, etc. And if you are unarmed and someone who is tells you not to move, you're well-advised to comply unless you can get out of the situation and also know how to w/out getting shot at the same time. But that wasn't the case here. He was caught "in the open", lying down, presumably covered up by a sheet or blanket, and so had his movements restricted, at a moderate distance from the gun-bearer. A very disadvantageous place to be, indeed. If he did move suddenly, it was unwise. But most teenagers don't have this kind of thing figured out in their heads ahead of time for such scenarios. But if they're boys, I guess they probably should.
Wonder when was the last time a mother or father shot a teenage girl dead for unexpectedly finding her in bed with their teenage son/daughter? My guess is never.
