'Men have seen their earnings hit the hardest in the pay squeeze after the financial crisis – but still earn 20 per cent more than women, according to new analysis.

The average male worker has seen his pay fall by 9 per cent in today’s prices - from highs of £14.24 an hour in 2009 to £12.97 in 2013, research by think tank Resolution shows.

Female pay has fallen less steeply, declining by 6 per cent over the same period, from £11.03 in 2009 to £10.33 an hour today.

"Male pay has fallen faster from a higher starting point," Matthew Whittaker, senior economist at Resolution, told the Sunday Times.'
