Single Teen Mom? Texas' Wendy Davis Lied About Life Story
Article here. Well at least it's more entertaining than the whole "born in a log cabin" routine. But it does show that feminists' insistence that female pols make categorically "better" political leaders because they're less likely to lie, be corrupted, etc., is hogwash. Excerpt:
'Wendy Davis, the Texas state senator whose filibuster for abortion rights made her a Democratic superstar and launched her campaign for governor, has admitted to the Dallas Morning News that she lied about key events in her life, including her first divorce. Davis may even have lied under oath, testifying in a federal lawsuit over redistricting that "I got divorced by the time I was 19 years old," when in fact she was divorced at age 21.
Other missing details have included: her second husband paid her way through law school and she divorced him the day after the last payment was made; her ex-husband accused her in initial court filings of adultery, and was awarded custody of their two daughters; and she first ran for city council in Fort Worth as a Republican.
"My language should be tighter,” she said, admitting her campaign biography has been less than truthful.
It is not clear whether the article in the Dallas Morning News, by senior political writer Wayne Slater, is meant to be an exposé or a defense, presenting embarrassing details in the best light possible to present an overall picture of competence. One unidentified source, who said that Davis is "going to figure out a way to spin herself in a way that grabs at the heart strings," is also quoted as saying that "she’d be a good governor."'

I clicked on some of the links. She moved in with her boyfriend while still in high school at age 17. At 18 she became pregnant with the boyfriend so they married, she had her daughter at 19 and divorced at 21. Soon afterwards she married her second husband and had another daughter. When she divorced her second husband he got custody of both daughters and she paid him child support (one of those daughters would not be his biological daughter). I just found those details interesting.
In some of the related articles it shows her speaking with political signs which say "war on women". Although it seems her own life was full of options and led to a path of success (measured by her position of power, career and personal lifestyle). I have no idea where this "war on women" is at. All I see is war on fetuses, war on boys, war on men.
Her political highlight is blocking a ban on late term abortions by way of an 11-hour filibuster. If I remember correctly a filibuster is when a politician talks and talks and purposely runs out the clock. Fellow politicians either leave making them ineligible to vote on the matter or the filibuster speech runs past the voting deadline. I personally think filibusters should not be allowed. It's a stupid way to win in politics.
edit note: I had first thought the daughters were younger when she divorced her second husband, but I guess they were married 13 years. The older daughter was in college and younger daughter was in high school when they divorced. Not sure, but it sounds like they lived separately for a few years before the divorce either because of her attending college away, marital trouble, or both.
