'A YouTube video is protesting the "illegal and unethical adoption of Veronica Brown," a member of the Cherokee Nation. In the background, father-daughter team Jorge and Alexa Narvaez sing a cover of 4 Non Blondes' "What's Going On." The pair, who became a YouTube sensation starting in 2010 with their cover of Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zero's "Home," when Alexa was 6, gave permission for their video to be used with the photo compilation of Veronica hugging and laughing with her dad.

I do wish the girl had been
I do wish the girl had been able to stay with her biological father. Not necessarily because I think the father legally deserved to have her under current adoption policies, but because with all the drama of back-and forth, I think it would have been best for the young girl.
This case makes my head spin, as I keep learning new details, but here's why I think legally the dad had a weak case. First he signed away his rights after the child was born. Also the child was not born while he was deployed, but four months before. He was aware of the due date, yet after the child's birth he made no attempts to contact the mother or visit the baby (the mother had not moved, but child resided with adoptive parents since birth). His lack of actions towards the child defines abandonment, and when combined with the signed documents, the adoption should have gone smoothly.
Having a very small drop of Cherokee blood is, IMO, a technicality that he is trying to exploit for his change of heart about relinguishing his rights.
BTW- Dusten Brown also has a 10 year old daughter with his ex-wife who he never mentions and does not pay his $253/month child support (he is several years behind). It's almost as if he has abandoned this daughter.
