Robert Redford: Women, young people must save U.S. from men 'behaving stupidly'

Article here. Excerpt:

'Robert Redford says bigotry, fear of change and a determination to personally destroy President Barack Obama have paralyzed the U.S. government.

Women and young people are the answer to fixing the gridlock that has partially shut down Washington, the actor told CNN on Tuesday.

"Give them the reins," Redford said. "I think they can do better than we have."
...
Women must save the country "because a lot of men that were in control were behaving stupidly," Redford said. "I mean, sometimes you say: 'Can we actually be this dumbed down, or am I actually hearing what I'm hearing from some of these people? Are they really, is that really happening?' It's sad."'

Not even sure such comments require much less rate a reply. He claims bigotry is at play at the same time he displays his own, aimed at members of his own sex. By his statements, he excludes himself from political candidacy, not that I'd ever expect him to vie for an office at this point.

If indeed the current occupants of Capitol Hill and the White House are stupid men, then the answer is not a categorical transfer of offices to anyone female. After all, women can be stupid, too. It is in fact a transfer of offices to not-stupid people-- ideally, competent and intelligent people. However for this to happen, they need to be elected to office. That's where "the people" come in. We get the leadership, such as it is, we vote for. Leadership, good and bad, comes in both general human formats: male and female. "Stupid" does too, something Mr. Redford aptly demonstrates.
