'PORTLAND, Maine — The number of women held in the Maine state prison system has grown nearly sixfold since 2002, a stark increase that experts say is sparking new conversations about the best way to rehabilitate female criminals.
...
And with each woman costing, by some estimates, nearly twice as much as a man to hold in prison, there’s a significant financial incentive to adopting programs and services geared toward keeping the women’s recidivism rate down, she said.
...
Whatever the legal drivers for the change, King and others who attended the conference on Tuesday said corrections officials must think differently about how they deal with incarcerated women compared to their male counterparts.

“Their pathways into the system are very different than men’s pathways into the system,” King said.

Piper Kerman, author of the bestselling memoir “Orange is the New Black” about her 13 months in a Connecticut prison, said a majority of women in prison have histories of trauma or being abused.'

That trauma and abuse is in the personal histories of female convicts isn't much different from male convicts' personal histories.

What is really happening here is a desire to see women not be sent to jail for crimes they would be if they were men. "Women can do no wrong but if they do, it isn't really wrong." Nymphotropism in action.

only a few years ago women were never even arrested or charged w/ a crime for terrible and disgusting sex acts against minors. these days sometimes they (maybe) get the typical 'filing a false police report'

only a few years ago women faced only a wrist slap for false accusations of rape. oops, my bad, they still only get a wrist slapping, if that.

only a few years ago women were encouraged by divorce lawyers to file false accusations of d.v. to gain the upper hand in a divorce, since they typically get away from it. oops, my bad. they still do it w/o penalty.

ditto for false accusations of child molestation.

guess its that 'war on women' thingy wanting justice for men.
