Online misogyny - politicians and journalists talk hypocritical rubbish
Article here. Excerpt:
'Many of the pundits, “journalists”, politicians and opinion makers discussing online misogyny - the argument du jour for the British media and the political and chattering classes - are demonstrating the worst sort of hypocrisy and gender prejudice.
Misogyny is of course unacceptable in any form and when it comes packaged in threats of violence and violent abuse it is illegal and should be prosecuted under existing law.
Misogyny should not, however, be seen as an excuse for the sort of casual misandry that is a contributory factor and is allowed to go unchecked and un-commented on in so many different publishing arenas - especially on BBC platforms (TV, web, radio and print).
Nothing is so guaranteed to get a journalist, broadcaster or politician to speak without engaging his or her brain as two or more people gathered together exchanging platitudes about how awful life is for women and how men, ALL men, are responsible.
Don’t take my word for it. This coming week count the number of times you hear men, masculinity and fatherhood disparaged in ways that if the targets were women, femininity and motherhood would draw tsunamis of condemnation.'
