Video: Most Democratic Mayoral Candidates Are Against Snip-N-Suck Circumcision Consent Forms
Article here. Excerpt:
'Earlier this month, the candidates fighting to become the next mayor weighed in on the controversial circumcision consent form that requires parents to sign a waiver before their infant can undergo the "metzitzah b’peh" ritual—the circumcision practice in which a mohel sucks the blood from a freshly snipped foreskin. Most of them seemed to be for the basic consent forms (which only informs parents of potential risk—it doesn't prevent them from having the ritual performed if they want), but mayoral candidates tend to have a slippery way with words. And it seems most of the democratic candidates are now AGAINST the consent forms, as you can see in the video below.
Christine Quinn was the only candidate who was in favor of keeping the consent forms, although she did criticize the Bloomberg administration (and by extension, the Board Of Health) for how they handled introducing the forms, which seems like she's trying to have her cake and eat it too. As Failed Messiah noted, the other candidates all "hemmed and hawed" their answers, either saying firmly that they'd get rid of it (John Liu) or just being vague to appease the ultra-Orthodox Haredi in the audience.'

Don't get it!
I can't understand why anyone'd be against it, most especially conservative or Orthodox Jews, much less political candidates. The forms, while informing parents of the routine risk of oral herpes (very common in us humans, whether one engages in oral sex or not-- HSV I just loves human beings and easily gets a foothold thru various means), etc., would also act as something of a legal shield for the mohel should indeed he transmit an infection to the infant and find himself getting sued. And it would give the parents time to consider the decision. After all, it's not like not getting this kind of circumcision doesn't mean the parents can't get the more "routine" kind.
I mean, even aside from the question of circumcision, why wouldn't anyone at least not be in favor of this requirement?
