NY Governor proffers Women's Equality Act

Announcement here. Looks like the governor has drunk the Wage Gap Kool-Aid. No one ever bet wrong however pandering politically to women as a group. At least, not so far. I do wonder when there'll be a similar Act addressing such things as paternity fraud, protections for men against false accusations, equal rights around child custody, reproductive rights, etc.? Maybe he'll announce that next month? (ROTFL!) Well, New York men can dream, I suppose. Excerpt:
'Today, Governor Cuomo, joined by members of the Women’s Equality Coalition, introduced legislation to end discrimination and inequality based on gender and to restore New York as a leader in women’s rights.
This Women’s Equality Act includes the following 10 points:
- Achieve Pay Equity
- Stop Sexual Harassment in All Workplaces
- Allow for the Recovery of Attorneys’ Fees in Employment and Credit and Lending Case
- Strengthen Human Trafficking Laws
- Prohibit Employers from Denying Promotions or Hiring Based on Family Status
- Prevent Landlords from Denying Housing to Qualified Tenants Based on Source of Rent Funds
- Stop Housing Discrimination for Victims of Domestic Violence
- Stop Pregnancy Discrimination Once and For All
- Protect Victims of Domestic Violence by Strengthening Order-of-Protection Law
- Protect a Woman’s Freedom of Choice'

Some perfectly good objectives
For example, where the $ is coming from for the rent. So, you're on the dole. This doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to find an apt. to live in. Of course, the hard part is, how do you show the would-be landlord denied you the apt. because of *that* reason? If there are 5 would-be renters and 2 are on public assistance and the owner rents to one of the other three possible renters not on the dole, who's to say one way or another whether it was a factor?
This one seems more like sugar than cake to me. But that's just one item.
As for a few of the others, well, I think the governor will have made a lot of new friends among NY attorneys specializing in civil suits!
equality act
It's the same in the UK.
Although there are a lot of men unemployed, last night ,on the BBC (the main news),there was a riveting discussion
as to how exactly the government were going to give unemployed women not only a job,but one which would satisfy their ego.As usual,it was shown that not enough women were CEO's and what laws could force them into these jobs ousting men as they get promoted. The Concensus was that, yes, the job sounds fine but what about flexi time.
The BBC is of course absolutely choc full of middle management females, the executive, they make all the decisions including news content which means that nearly
100% of the crimes reported are male based while the hard luck stories always feature women.Amazingly enough they
would love a world war as long as they can continue
reporting on it and earning a fortune.
a few of these items give me
a few of these items give me great concern-
Equal pay act - I have said many times, people are generally paid what they are worth, based on supply and demand and the government should stay out of it. If this act goes into effect, employers may avoid hiring women, but then I suppose these women would demand employment gender quotas on top of equal pay. Things could get worse.
Allow for the recovery of attorney fees - It may be a good general principal, but for these types of issues it seems like it will promote attorneys to aggressively seek out "discrimination" cases. Does it work both ways? Would an employee have to pay legal fees to the business if she loses her case?
End pregnancy discrimination - I am not sure what all this encompasses, but generally I do not support things like this. Most successful businesses treat employees well and can/should voluntarily come up with their own policies. Often times pregnant women do not make the most efficient employees. I also find it contradictory that everyone else has to treat a pregnant woman special, yet as a society we cannot ask the pregnant women to do anything special. A pregnant woman can harm her fetus all she wants : (
Protect a woman right to choose - A fancy way of saying to keep abortion available and fully funded. So based on the pregnancy discrimination act, I guess if a pregnant walked into a job interview and announce she pregnant, an employer may be pressured to hire her (fear of legal action, payment of legal fees and everything else on the list if it were all in affect). Then she can just abort, and probably get paid for her time off to abort as well.
I could comment on a few other points, but I gotta go....
