NCFM Chapter Files Lawsuit for Lack of Men's Commission

My jaw dropped as I was forwarded the following press release by Marc Angelucci from the Los Angeles chapter of the National Coalition of Free Men. They have taken the bold step in filing suit against L.A. County for refusing to establish a men's commission, while a women's commission exists. Suits are also to be filed in Orange county and San Bernardino for discrimination against men in domestic violence shelters. Read More below for the whole story. And get involved in this if you can!

NCFM SUES COUNTY FOR LACK OF COMMISSION FOR MEN

On July 11th, 2002, the National Coalition of Free Men, Los Angeles chapter, will file a lawsuit against L.A. County for refusing to create a commission for men, as they have created for women.

“A commission for men can be just as successful as the commission for women has been, and there’s a dire need for it,” says Marc Angelucci, a mental health attorney and president of NCFM L.A. “Men vastly outnumber women in suicides, dropouts, homelessness, incarcerations and job casualties. Men have lots of issues as men, but their issues are ignored even by male politicians.”

In a letter to Supervisor Yvonne Burke dated June 6, 2001, L.A. County’s Chief Executive Office opposed NCFM’s proposal for a commission for men, claiming “there is insufficient data available to substantiate that men are being denied basic human rights due to discrimination.”

“Not true,” says Angelucci. “Men face routine discrimination in family courts, criminal sentences, draft registration, prostate cancer funding, domestic violence services and more. They get denied access to their kids due to judicial bias, false accusations or blocked visitation. Then they’re labeled ‘deadbeat dads’ and dragged through a vicious and hostile system.”

New Hampshire recently formed a statewide commission for men.
