The Hiatus is Over...

Well, folks, I'm back, and I'm ready to start making things happen again with Mensactivism.org. I'd like to sincerely thank everyone who took this temporary outage in stride - I didn't receive one angry or impatient e-mail from anyone - and let you all know that my final projects and exams went much, much better than they would have if had I not taken some time off. Now that my life has returned to a reasonable pace, I'm ready to start some new projects for MANN! That's right - due to some strong collaboration between myself and Mike LaSalle from Men's News Daily, I'd like to take advantage of the opportunity to focus MANN more strongly on the activism side of things, and let MND does what it does best, which is to provide news stories and commentary for the movement. Read on for more details about this plan...

Since Mensactivism.org first appeared on the internet in June of 2000, a significant activist community has grown around the site and I've met many people I consider to be true brothers and sisters in the struggle for men's rights. These are people who are willing to put action behind their words, and make things happen. It is for these people that I have worked hard to make MANN as useful as possible. Now, I have some new ideas on how to make this web site even more useful to the folks "down in the trenches" working for the sake of men's rights and dignity.

Providing news and commentary on issues related to men's issues has so far been a large part of what Mensactivism.org has been about. Reading about outrageous violations of men's rights and the incomprehensible double standards in law have provided "fuel for the fire" which has helped motivate people to action. Now, a new web site has come up which has done an incredibly effective job of tracking news stories on men's issues, and it's not going away any time soon. Men's News Daily is the site I'm talking about, of course. I knew Mike LaSalle's site was great asset to the movement from the start, and would like to help promote it for what it does best - providing news and commentary on men's issues of interest to us. With the advent of MND, MANN is now able to focus even more strongly on tracking activism projects that are the lifeblood of making social progress toward a fair and just society.

Over the summer, MANN will undergo a change in philosophy and content to bring it even more in-line with our name - Men's Activism. Men's News Daily will keep us informed about daily events in the movement, and Mensactivism.org will provide a means of channeling our energy into projects that will have a direct impact on the state of men's rights in the world. The change will be gradual, and you will see frequent announcements as progress toward this shift occurs.

Mensactivism.org will continue to be run by the Slash web engine, and will help facilitate cooperation and coordination among activist individuals and groups. With more of my time freed from tracking news stories, I will be better able to cater this site to the needs of activists. Also, I intend to expand the scope of activism on this site to include not only men's rights issues, but also certain civil liberties issues related to free speech and the rights of internet users. These issues should be just as important to us, because they threaten the effectiveness of internet-based collaboration and the formation of fledgling social movements. If you have ideas on what would help you make the most out of your activism, please let me know. I look forward to the new opportunities that lie ahead of us!
