Men don heels to raise awareness for sexual assault

Story here. Excerpt:

'One Whistler RCMP sergeant found out what it was like to walk a mile in a woman’s shoes when he donned high heels to raise awareness for violence against women, but feminism experts say the event may be counterproductive.

Sgt. Rob Knapton joined 30 other men who marched together in red high heels in Whistler Village on Sept. 23 to raise awareness for sexual assault and domestic violence against women.
...
“For us, the connection with ‘sexual assault’ is already embedded in "high heeled shoes" because they are culturally marked as ‘feminine,’” the post said.
But founder of Vancouver-based the F Word: Feminist Media Collective Nicole Deagan said while the intentions of the event are good, associating high heels with sexual assault is a problem.

“While I really appreciate any effort made to bring awareness to violence against women, one of the big problems with associating high heels with sexual assault is it... perpetuates that assault is in any way connected to how women dress.”
...
Associate professor for women’s studies at Simon Fraser University Elise Chenier said while it may not be the best way to address violence against women, it’s successfully draws attention to the issue.

“It seems to me a little bit odd, but the intention is to be playful, and it certainly has been successful getting media attention,” she said.'

... a bunch of women put on work boots and hold up signs decrying the disposability of males and how if the same percentages of women killed and injured on the job (including in combat) were equal to that of men, there'd be outrage instead of the loud silence that currently exists.

hey, you guys/gals/others. its o.k. to be gay. haven't you heard? football players donning pink shoes? high heels? hey its o.k. we live in the '10's. i read where some males (overseas) have started w/ the makeup to work to look younger, or whatever the reason. its o.k. to just be who you are. since you tough guys don't seem to be affiliated w/ the serious problems of your fellow males, i see nothing at all wrong w/ you defining yourself as whatever you want to be, and good on you for speaking out for those trying desperately to cling to that vast array of special privileges won at the expense of others.

hey, its o.k. that women demand (and get) the vast majority of money spent on cancer research. so more men die, so what? billions for v.a.w.a. or women only. guys never get killed or abused by their sig. other, right? and who cares that nobody dares ask how its all spent. right? good prez for that, eh?

so children's hospitals get shorted so women can get all the gov. funding. so what? you go right on marching for special privileges for he most well fed, pampered, powdered, pompus and privileged peroxide princesses the world has ever known. it really shows the rest of us just how we got in this pickle. so see? you are doing some good ... and getting those closeted feeling out there to deal with too. two birds, eh?
