'In any debate, people are entitled to their opinions, but not their own facts. The American Academy of Pediatrics has issued a revised circumcision policy statement that relies on selectively chosen facts to support the alteration of normal male genitalia ("Pediatrician Group Says Pros Outweigh Cons in Circumcision," Aug. 27 news article).
It's important to remember that the AAP has recently made other serious errors in judgment. In 2010, it issued a policy that called for doctors to be allowed to inflict a "ritual nick" on infant girls' genitalia for "cultural" reasons (in contravention of federal law). Under pressure from Intact America and other genital integrity organizations, the AAP rescinded this recommendation.

Few people in circumcising cultures question any research that supports their viewpoint -- they want to believe. However, since most males are cut shortly after birth, they have no frame of reference and cannot possibly comprehend what they're missing. The AAP should reconsider all the facts and the fundamental bodily integrity rights of children, or they will be stuck on the wrong side of history.'
