Comedy about middle school statutory rape? Does Adam Sandler’s 'That’s My Boy' go too far?

Article here. Excerpt:

'LOS ANGELES – Adam Sandler’s comedy “That’s My Boy,” slated for release on Father's Day 2012, centers on a 13-year-old boy named Donny having a sexual relationship with his middle school teacher, resulting in a child.

Thirty years later, Donny is reunited with his now grown-up son (Andy Samberg), who fled his single father as soon as he turned 18, and it’s all fun and games as they get to know each other again.

But father/son bonding aside, is statutory rape an acceptable comic premise?

The trailer for "That's My Boy" shows young teen Donny mesmerized by his teacher “crush,” who saunters down the school corridor in slow motion. She then fondles her cleavage while staring at the child seductively in the classroom. But “things went too far.” Cut to the courtroom where Donny’s mates high-five him for impregnating his teacher. As she is dragged off to jail, she screams: “Take care of our baby, Donny!”'

While I think this could be a way to show the damage a female child rapist can cause on both the boy she rapes and the child quite possibly produced from that rape, I don't think Adam Sandler has the capacity to do it properly. Comedy, Sandler's brand of comedy especially, does not lend itself to exploring social issues.

I dont want or expect social issues or serious matters to be explored during comedy entertainment. Since comedy is subjective, there can be no boundaries when it comes to offering comedy, but the consumer has the choice of what they will accept as comedy. So vote with your wallet. Adam Sandler willl have to do much more to get me back after "Jack and Jill", this new movie looks even worse.

If anyone pays $15 to see this movie, I doubt they are smart enough to see the male rape or the other underlying issues.

edit: BTW I just learned that the original title for this movie was "I Hate You Dad!" and it is scheduled to open on Father's Day. How sad.
