Blatant sex discrimination in Ireland

Story here. Excerpt:

'TEENAGE boys can continue to be prosecuted for underage sex while teen girls are exempt.

The 'Romeo and Juliet' law is constitutionally sound because it reflects a girl's risk of pregnancy after sex, the Supreme Court ruled yesterday.

The court also said that it was not always possible to apply the same treatment to everyone, especially when it came to different genders.

It stemmed from a 15-year-old boy being charged with having sex with a 14-year-old girl in Donegal on August 5, 2006.
...
The court unanimously ruled the law was constitutional, because lawmakers could take account of the danger of pregnancy for teenage girls in such cases.'

Because when a boy and girl have sex resulting in pregnancy, the boy has no consequences, right? he can walk away as he pleases, never needing to take responsibility for his role. Oh wait, the the law also enforces that. so when this boy gets out of jail for having sex with a girl who could have gotten pregnant, he would still have to pay if she had actually gotten pregnant, thus hitting him twice. The fact is, both girls AND boys risk pregnancy when having sex, and ONLY girls have an option out should it happen, so really, it's boys who are in more danger of pregnancy with underaged sex.

"The court also said that it was not always possible to apply the same treatment to everyone, especially when it came to different genders."

This is not the first time I have heard this, but when stated, it is ALWAYS to the benefit of a woman. When it would benefit a man, both genders MUST be treated equally. never fails.

The roles of the sexes have largely reversed regarding who can "walk away." If the woman chooses to abort or adopt out the child or leave it at the local fire station, she can walk away. These choices mean the man is "off the hook" as well. But if she chooses to keep the child, he can't just walk away. The woman still has to deal, in some way, with the consequences of pregnancy, but she gets to choose the ultimate outcome. He's captive to her decisions.

We all know that's good because it makes her life easier--not his.
