NYPD Commissioner's son in rape probe

Story here. The woman reported the alleged assault three months after the encounter and during that span continued contact with him via text messages and phone calls. I'm going to keep a close eye on this story. Excerpt:

'NEW YORK -- The son of New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly is under investigation after a woman accused him of rape, sources tell NBC New York.
...
Details of her complaint are unknown at this time, but Greg Kelly has not been arrested or charged with any crime.
...
Kelly's attorney, Andrew Lankler, said that his client was aware of the investigation and strongly denied any wrongdoing.

"Mr. Kelly is aware that the New York County District Attorney's office is conducting an investigation. Mr. Kelly strenuously denies any wrongdoing of any kind, and is cooperating fully with the district attorney's investigation," Lankler said in a statement. "We know the district attorney's investigation will prove Mr. Kelly's innocence."
...
The New York Times, quoting an anonymous law enforcement official, said the woman is in her late 20s or early 30s. She walked into the 13th Precinct with her sister after 8 p.m. on Tuesday and made her complaint, according to the Times.

The woman told police she met Kelly on the street, and the two had drinks together on Oct. 8, the paper reported. They then moved on to her office at a Lower Manhattan law firm. According to the Times, the woman told the cops that the rape occurred at the office. The two continued to keep in touch by phone and text message after the encounter.'

Hate to sound skeptical but you know, I don't hate to sound open-minded and fair. It occurs to me that maybe, just maybe, she fooled around and got caught and had to make up a story for her boyfriend. Now finding out that said guy the gf fooled around with is the NYPD Commissioner's son, maybe they think there's a payday somewhere in this. Well maybe there is and maybe there isn't. But maybe there was an actual, legally-defined rape (ie, not as defined in college campus codes, such as having heterosexual sex without a constant "yes, keep doing that," or "go ahead and do that, yes..." from the girl) that occurred, with follow-up texts and phone conversations no less-- but maybe not. I do agree with anthony that this is one to watch and I'd be lying if I didn't say I leaned (at this time) toward the "and maybe not" side of things. But I'll keep an open mind about it in case new or further modifying evidence comes to light.

It's hard to say for certain what happened, but I must say given the circumstances, I don't find the alleged victim's testimony to be very believable.

Why did she wait 3 months to report it? Why did she keep contact with the alleged rapist? And why did they go to her office? That just seems weird to me.

As Matt said, we'll have to wait and see.
