SAVE: Tell Senator Leahy: Accredit New Teen Dating Violence Prevention Programs

It was recently announced that the upcoming Senate version of VAWA will include a new teen dating violence prevention focus. SAVE encourages evidence-based programs for children and teens. When done right, youth in families with abuse can be taught to break the cycle of violence.

The key words here are "When done right." This SAVE report shows Most DV Educational Programs Lack Accuracy, Balance, and Truthfulness (www.saveservices.org/downloads/SAVE-DV-Educational-Programs) On average, only 10% of DV "education" is correct.

It is vital, that moving forward all domestic violence educational materials include only accurate and unbiased information. SAVE offers a Training, Education, and Public Awareness (TEPA) accreditation program. This kind of scrutiny is necessary if we are to serve all victims of domestic violence.

Call Senator Leahy today. Politely yet firmly explain that all new teen dating violence prevention programs need to be accredited. Tell him to "get it right the first time out of the gate."
