Male bashing on TV must stop

Article here. Excerpt:
'I’m getting tired of TV depicting men as small-minded, beer-drinking, softball-playing, girl-ogling, knuckle-dragging oafs who can’t do anything for themselves.
More and more, ad agencies, the companies that hire them and the networks are depicting men and dads who can’t function in society without help. And while we need help from the women in our lives from time to time, there are plenty of high functioning guys in real life who hold down jobs, who make excellent decisions and who don’t waste their days playing video games and sitting on their couch eating salami sandwiches.'

Patriarchy?
It is pointed out in the article and comments relating to it that the majority of household spending is controlled by women, and also that the majority of TV studios and ad agencies are run by men.
A couple of questions. Regarding the household spending aren't we supposed to live in a patriarchy that oppresses women? If women are so oppressed why do women have more spending power than men? And if you disagree with that why do companies direct their promotions towards women?
Regarding the fact most of these TV studios are run by men, well if this is how male-run businesses portray women and men what would happen if they were run by women? Would men be any better portrayed than they are now? And since men are the ones running these outfits and coming up with these messages how come men are criticised for sexism towards women when they are clearly more misandrist than misogynist?
Often the feminist argument for women running more companies, advertising, media etc is that men are so innately misogynist only women could ever be fair-minded towards women to ensure equal represantation of the sexes on TV. Yet the upshot of feminism has been that male domination of boardrooms continues; only the cultural messages have changed. So it seems having more women running these companies would make little real difference, or at least that's how it seems to me.
What do other posters think? Would having more women running ad agencies make much difference and what of the fact women control spending in most households? Does this prove we live in a patriarchy and if so what sort of patriarchy?
Just some questions to chew over!
