Innocent Man Freed After 27 Years

Story here. Excerpt:

'Imprisoned for 27 years for a rape he did not commit, Michael Anthony Green walked out of a US jail a free man and in the process was able to leave behind some of the anger that fuelled his survival behind bars.

Accompanied by his lawyer, Mr Green walked out of jail and into the arms of about 20 family members who cheered him.

"Live life," Mr Green said, when asked what he is going to do now.

Mr Green, 44, was released after the Harris County District Attorney's Office reopened his case and new DNA tests it commissioned showed he did not commit the 1983 rape of a woman who was abducted.'

...in that I did not get convicted. But cases like this carry a special outrage for me because I know first hand the tactic police use to get a person to identify the person that the COPS want identified in a line up or photo line up. Cases like this are the ones that often go unsolved because they are practically unsolvable without doubt. DNA has improved things by a small margin, but trust me folks its not CSI in real life. they are not going to find the attackers DNA in the carcase of a mosquito in the victims car. If the perp wears a condom chances are no DNA will be recovered. Life is not TV.

But in the effort to solve cases like this where the attacker is not known to the victim and she does not really know anything other then that she was attacked, the cops will manipulate her into naming anyone as the attacker because they want to reassure the general public that the streets are safe. Guys like Mr Green are just collateral damage in a PR campaign by the cops.

Should be a warning to all men though, even if you were just walking in an area that a woman said she was raped at, you might find your self arrested and locked up for the crime. Don't for one second think that they actually need DNA even today for you to get convicted.
