Feminists will say it is an example of sexism in that it assumes a "girl" will be the one to take the traditional-roled secretary-like post in question.

Traditionally, men have been secretaries, as they were the ones that did all the work that paid-- all of it, including clerical work. And indeed, denying women the right to an equal shot at paid jobs was wrong. So now, take a look at things. In a down job market, to suggest that a person of a given sex only is encouraged to apply by the wording of an advert-- well, what more do you want in terms of curbing opportunities? Plenty of men in Australia I am sure would at least like a crack at a job like that. To deny even the chance to them up front is just plain wrong.

As you read the article they do not use any gender language to describe the employee they are seeking ("We require a PERSON that is passionate about their place in our business...").

Could have been an older person writing the job title who is not aware of political correctness and they simply want the employee to have the skills of "Girl Friday". I'm not familiar with the term but isn't it like an assistant that does a little bit of everything?

If they are being discriminatory, then it's a problem, but I don't know the true intent just by reading the add.

I'm sure the PC police will be on their tail to tell them about their faux pas.

BTW - In the entertainment industry the person who assists the lighting crew is called a "best boy". Productions companies advertise for this job frequently using the words "best boy needed" but I assume they will hire any gender. I wonder how long before some one raises hell over the term.
