Seattle police officer under investigation after being assaulted by women

Story here.

'A Seattle police officer is under investigation after he was videotaped punching a 17-year-old girl after trying to ticket her and her friends for jaywalking.

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon when Officer Ian Walsh stopped four women who were jaywalking on a main road close to a pedestrian bridge in Seattle, Washington. According to a statement released by the police force, a 19-year-old woman began walking away when the officer asked the women to step over to his car. Things soon escalated with the 19-year-old yelling at the officer, the statement says. When the officer tried to arrest the 19-year-old, another 17-year-old woman got involved.

The statement:

"The second female subject placed her hands on the officer’s arm, causing the officer to believe she was attempting to physically affect the first subject’s escape. The officer pushed the second subject back, but she again came at the officer, at which time he punched her."

Both women were cited for jaywalking, and the 17-year-old was arrested and brought to a youth detention centre for investigation of assault on an officer. She was later released.

Police said no one was hurt.'

Was as follows:

'There should be no "female discount" in this or any other case. Jaywalking is a BS thing, a mere ticket, and easily fought in court. One hardly needs a lawyer. But to interfere or resist getting that ticket? Yes, that is.

The young women involved in this, I speculate, probably thought they could get away with doing things like this because they were female. This is an example of female privilege: the power to become physically violent or coercive and still not only get away with it but be considered a sympathetic character even as what you did was wrong. The officer should no more be under investigation than if the should-be suspects in the matter were male. And I have to ask you, can you just imagine the hot water the officer's assailants would be in if they had been male and the officer female?

Finally, I ask the reader to Google the word "nymphotropism" and start reading.'

I'd also add that no matter how dumb you think the whole thing is, resisting arrest is illegal in and of itself. If you get arrested, go "downtown", while staying silent except to ask for a lawyer, then when after consulting, decide what to do next.

Facing charges of resisting arrest in and of itself, even if you have done nothing else wrong, may get you jailtime. So don't do it.

I agree with your comments Matt. Watching the video, you can see that the situation is out of control. You have a white male officer issuing a ticket to a black female in a black neighborhood. The crowd is getting in to it as well.

I think the officer acted fairly reserved considerring how everyone was in his face. Non-physical tactics clearly weren't working.

The reason he was reserved was because he had cameras and a crowd nearby, if not for that he'd probably have beaten her. After about 5 seconds he had her in a half nelson! If it had been a man he'd probably would've been killed or at least tasered. I'm dead serious. And the assault by the women? You mean the half-hearted push?
You can also see that the officer knew he stepped over the line because at 1:30 in the video he tries to say she tried to grab him or something.

Anyone who is foolish enough to approach a police officer in any way must be ignorant of the fact that he/she has to prevent THE GUN from being taken. If this creature took this man's gun and shot him (or anyone else) with it, the footage would be shown in police academies for the next 5 centuries in how NOT to deal with possible antagonists. This idiot (the woman) is lucky to be alive, and this cop probably will lose his shield and pension over it.
