Danica Patrick: "It’s not my fault"

Story here. I have nothing against Danica Patrick. I have nothing against women competing in NASCAR or anyplace else. What annoys me is when they think they can compete on the same terms as men but then when things don't go their way, invoke "female privilege" to try distance themselves from the issue.

In legal matters as we know here on MANN this is called a "pu$$y pass". In other less-significant cases, I'd call it the "princess pass". Danica needs to lose the princess pass if she is going to be taken seriously--finally. She has the skills to compete. She is not the best driver in the world but neither are 99.9% of the men driving out there either. All she needs to do is cease and desist whining when things don't go her way. Whining from male drivers in intolerable. Likewise should it be from female ones. Excerpt:

'So frustrated that she threw her crew under the bus. "This is the worst car I've ever had," she said, according to USA Today's Nate Ryan on Twitter. "There's no stability or grip. It's just scary, really scary ... It's awful, really awful. I think I'm still shaking." And when her comments were played over the track PA, she was booed.

“I wasn’t flat out the last two laps and I was scared to death flat on the first two. I’ve never been bad here before. I’ve never been outside the top 10 on a finish or qualifying, so, it’s not my fault. The car is not good.”

Danica Patrick being booed? What the heck?

Maybe Danica's candor -- or whining, as some may prefer -- is rubbing fans the wrong way. Danica has always been confident, and unafraid to tell it like she sees it. That makes her likeable to some, and unlikable to others.'

Hmmm, am I missing something. What part of the article was she indicating that she deserves something because she is female?

To me this seems like a typical athlete whining. Happens everyday in men's sports. I watched the Orlando-Boston NBA playoff game last night and the guys argued every call, blamed some one else, played dirty, etc. About every 2 minutes someone was complaining.

It seems like Danica complained too much, and the fans booed her, indicating that they would not tolerate her comments just like they should have.

I am not familiar with race car driving. Would a male driver have been treated differently for such comments? A quick google search indicates male drivers have complained about their own crew in the past. The name of NASCAR driver, Mike Skinner popped up for frequently complaining about his car, teammates, pit crew and owners after bad races.

And as far as I know Danica has been taken seriously in the racing world and is not known for her complaining, so I believe this is an isolated incident for her.

I'm not sure what the big deal is, or why anyone feels she is getting preferred treatment.
